jaelie: (Thailand Doi Suthep Jedi)
I'm starting to get really excited about our trip to Thailand. Finances are falling into place, and plans are being made.

So far, we know when we'll be arriving in Thailand, and we've also discovered that Matt's brother will be taking time off, and his children will be out of school, too. So we're going to take a family trip up to Chiang Mai, which is a province in the far north. We'll be visiting Doi Suthep, which will be a real treat. It was built in the 1300s. Our time there is also during the water festival.... I don't remember what it's called but that should make things exciting, too!

Whee!

The weekend fun (long-ish)... )

In other news, with more information later, we're going to Thailand this year! Whee! So! If any of my sewing friends can give me specific information on what types (weaves?) of silk fabric that are period correct for for either Victorian or Regency, I would be very, very grateful! :D

Wow. So things have gotten a bit lively at our residence.

First, of course, there's the Case of the Car-Killing Deer on Thanksgiving. I never heard from the insurance adjustor, although in all fairness, if he called the shop and I wasn't there, no one except me answers the phone so a message may have been misdirected. So anyway, I emailed our insurance agent (who rocks, by the way), to let him know and in half an hour he had me set up to contact Service King, who are taking care of everything else. All I had to do was drop off my poor injured Saturn and pick up a rental. All this morning. Hooray! Well, except for the deductible, which will be a big ouch. So Merry Christmas, Jay & Matt!

The next excitement started just before our little batch of snow last week. Our heater is wonky. It blows luke-warm air. So we've had this little space heater in our room and we stayed in our bedroom to stay warm. I've heard Matt refer to it as the fort.

Then, my awesome brother-in-law came over to try to fix things up before last week's freeze and discovered that our breaker box is... um... shall we say dangerous? All the switches were turned off and he still managed to spark himself. Owie. That was when he called his efforts done and brought in some of his friends to work on things for us. We got it all settled and now have a new breaker box. Well, the heater is still wonky, but we now have parts and at least the breaker box is safe now so we can turn things on and off with no fear of earning a punk hairdo without the hair spray but with all the gravity defiance you could possibly want.

Saturday was super-filled. We woke up early to take the hound over to our friend's house and then headed to Austin for our friends' Scott and Hope's wedding and reception. It was held in a very pretty, intimate Methodist chapel filled with poinsettas. Hope was beautiful, of course, and Scott very handsome in his tux. For a gift, Matt and I gave them two things. One thing that was serious, and one thing for fun: a video about building a strong marriage, and a set of paints for miniature painting, since we knew for a fact that that was a particular hobby of theirs. Best of all, Matt wrapped the gifts in an issue of the City of Heroes comic, since both of them work for NC Soft. Hehe. After the reception, we headed back up to Denton, picked up the hound and went home and directly to bed.

I've also called the vet and am to take the hound in for a check-up. He hurt his back by jumping into my Saturn before the back door was all the way up and slammed into it as he leapt. Poor hound. I felt like such a terrible person for not paying closer attention - I had been concentrating on getting the door up and his leash had slacked. Anyway, I gave him his left-over painkiller/anti-inflammatories and he seems to feel ok, but now there's this swelling lump at the place of impact. The swelling is all fluids, I can tell. My boss says it's white blood cells gathering there to protect the injury. Taltos lets me fiddle with it without complaint, so I don't think it causes him a ton of pain, although it worries me. I'm calling it Junior, and have been calling the hound Quasimodo. Luckily, neither the injury nor the swelling seem to have slowed him down any - he still runs his laps and such, but I'm concerned. So off to the vet we go tomorrow.

Voila! That is my last two weeks.

Oct 28: I went to the Lake to spend some quality time with [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky, with the hubby and [livejournal.com profile] finari. Of course I had a ball. I always have a wonderful time at the lake. Heck. If all I did was curl up and read while there, I would still have a great time. Anyway, the very first thing we did was tour the Boat Club in the golf cart. I also love golf carts, heh. After the tour, we did our standard Denison trip to the little alternative store there called Bec Art. They always have some cool things. Next time, I'm going to pick up one of their glass incense burners and the tiny essential oil bottle.

After Bec Art, we went back to TempestSky's place and played Werewolf. My husband, wonderful lovely man that he is, agreed to run our Girls' Game for the three of us and he pretty much picked up where the old game left off. Oddly enough, it was almost one year to the date of our last game. Anyway, He is such a good story teller, and pretty much immediately made the game his. I love his NPCs, heh. I wasn't totally sure if TempestSky enjoyed herself because she was so quiet, but she assured me that she thoroughly enjoyed herself.

About 4pm, we took a break and went to watch Matt and Tim clean up a 75 pound catfish. Yes, I did say 75 pounds! TempestSky took some pictures of it, too.

After that little break and some food, we resumed the game and then called it quits around 10pm to head back to DFW. *sigh* What a lovely day!

Matt and I also had sushi with [livejournal.com profile] annawick and [livejournal.com profile] spar30, who were celebrating their sixth anniversary. Six, right? I think yall got married the year after Matt and I... Anyway, the sushi was great, the company was excellent and in all, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Nov 4: Matt and I went shooting, and our friend Glen came down from Tulsa and hung out pretty much the whole weekend. I'm still sad they moved, even though hopefully it is temporary and they'll be back in three years after he is done with law school. After that, we chilled out at our place, then headed over to the Buddhist Wat in Keller for their Loi Krathong celebration. Mmm. Lots of good Thai food was eaten.

Nov 10: Friday night had us over at Rob & Sioux's place, where we watched movies and chatted. I didn't get to spend much time with the Kyrster since her bedtime is so early. She did have the chance to show off her Water Bender outfit that she wore for Halloween. Sioux made it and did an excellent job of it. Oo. And for dinner, Sioux made some bacon-wrapped garlic shrimp that was simply mouth-wateringly good. Mmm. I am *still* drooling, just thinking about it. Anyway, this Thanksgiving, I'll make sure to spend some quality time with Kyrie at my parents' place. She's growing up into quite the like-able girl.

Nov 11: We left Rob & Sioux's in the morning, hoofed it over to our place to drop off the hound, then went to Dallas for the DFWCG gathering. I decided to re-do my petticoat to be more useful to a natural form 1880s petticoat rather than for a hoop skirt as it was originally done, so I ripped out the old waistband and re-pleated it and basted on the new waistband while chatting with the others at the gathering. It is really helpful for me to have to kind of "report" in regarding my costuming goals. Well, technically we're not reporting in at all, but it's inspiring to be around other people who are such accomplished costumers and so I seem to get more done. Neat! I still need to put on the fasteners and actually machine stitch the waistband on, but the hard part is done. The machine stitching will take literally ten minutes, if that.

After the DFWCG gathering, Matt and I headed back up to the shop for the game that our friend Mike is running. My character almost got taken away by Strahd (yes, the DM plopped us in Ravenloft!), but for the quick thinking of a party member who switched places with me via some kind of dimension door or something right before Strahd's teleport, Strahd has now got a monk with him instead of my character. And that's how that evening's session ended. Heh.

And there you have it. At least I updated *before* the SASS event this time! ^_~

I had a very busy September, and am having an equally busy October, heh. Lets see. What have I been up to?

(Oh, yeah. This is a LONG entry)

*reaches over and flips the calendar back to September...*

Weekdays are all the same more or less. Some hanging out with the hubby watching movies, some World of Warcraft, some hanging out with friends, some reading. And of course, work. Always work.

Oh, and Thai lessons every Tuesday evening. Dude. That language is tricky, as I knew it would be. Time to make massive amounts of flash cards. Our class sessions are somewhat amusing, although of course very instructive. The teacher speaks about as much English as I speak Thai, so our lessons involve a lot of pointing at images and then saying the word. Since I'm learning kindergarten stuff, like the alphabet, it is definitely sufficient, and for the most part, when there's something to explain, Matt's there to interpret for me. Heh.

Anyway, at least the alphabet is semi-phonetic (with 40-something consonants, 30-something vowels and five tonal markings), which simplifies the learning process somewhat. I mean, once I'm literate, I won't have to guess which tone to try since it's marked right there on the word. I'm going to so butcher that language and cause myself all kinds of embarrassing situations. Good thing I like to laugh at myself!

(No, no! I meant Orange Juice, not Toilet Water!!)

Now the calendar:

Sep 16: Matt and I were back in Cleburne for some more Cowboy Action Shooting. Whee! This time, my sis came with us and we had a blast. I am really digging this new hobby. I need to make some more clothes. :D That evening we got together with Glen and Jeanette who were in town for the weekend and did some character creation. Well, everyone else created characters and I played with Aleis. I miss those girls!

Sep 21: [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky came down that Thursday and stayed til Friday afternoon. Thursday evening we hung out and discussed Werewolf characters and what direction we want the chronicle to take and tied up a lot of loose ends from the old chronicle. I'm digging our characters and am looking forward to our first real gaming session. Friday was a wonderfully mellow day (I took a vacation day off) shopping and chatting. I miss Tempest_Sky, and can't wait til our next visit (Whee! Soon!!).

Sep 23: The following Saturday, I went with the parents, sibs, and sibs spouses and kids to the Texas Civil War Museum. That was a lot of fun. Heh. The film was a pretty good "Go, Texas!" kind of propaganda that I thoroughly enjoyed. They also had about thirty Victorian era dresses out on display, all of them in near-perfect condition. I'm going to have to scan the pictures my sister was able to take of a few of them (she ran out of film). My most favorite was a gorgeous royal purple silk taffeta bustle gown from the early 1880s. I did clean my finger prints off the glass protecting the display. Really.

Sep 29: The weekend starting Friday myself, [livejournal.com profile] sandrayln, our friends Kaity and Laura went to TRF for Sandrayln's bachelorette party. We left Denton around 9:30 pm and drove to Houston to start our fun. We rented a hotel room in the Woodlands and on Saturday morning took a shuttle to the faire. I dare say much fun was had by all. ^_^ One thing to note is that there was one sword shop down in the pirate area that has a raffle and auction towards the end of the day, at which there are some really good deals on costume weapons. Neat! Saturday evening we had dinner at the sushi bar which was in walking distance from the hotel and got the royal treatment from the owner, who could tell none of us knew what to do. Heh. Sunday morning Laura woke us up (cruel!!) and we headed back home.

Oct 5: On Thursday, we all got back together again for the wedding rehearsal. We ran through the wedding twice, but our parts were all easy enough. The hardest part was the walking up the aisle at a freaking snail's pace. The wedding coordinator was quite the martinet about that detail. The first time I went really, really slow, which wasn't slow enough, so the second run through I went even slower. I could have fallen asleep I was walking so slow. After the rehearsal, though, we cornered the bride and made sure she was ok with us going just slow. Yay! Of course, I have no complaints, because Sandrayln has been great, and I hope we did well for her, too.

Oct 6: On Friday evening, we all met up at the Master Grill, a Brazilian style churrascaria, and had a lot of food. Mm. I love that place!

Oct 7: Saturday morning I got up and was at the stylist first thing, but still managed to be ten minutes late for the pre-wedding stuff. Ugh. I felt so guilty. Anyway, then lots of pictures were taken, and then we were all hurried out so that the groom and his people could have all their photographs. Sandrayln looked gorgeous in her gown (of course), and the look on Kevin's face as she walked towards him was particularly sweet. I must admit, though, my favorite part was at the very end. After the preacher announced the married couple, we all walked out to the Imperial March.

After the wedding, I headed to Fort Worth for the Lex's second birthday party. I had fun hanging out with my parents, [livejournal.com profile] annawick, [livejournal.com profile] spar30, and Spar's side of the family. His parents are super cool. Annie is fortunate in her in-laws. ^_^ I had a lot of fun chasing the little monster around, and just watching him entertain himself with his new toys. I also got a chance to chat some with Spar, which isn't very often. He mentioned some home-building ideas that really sparked my interest, though. I'm going to have to email him and get some more details!

Oct 14: This past Saturday the DFW Costuming Guild met for our business meeting. Attendance was disappointingly low, but we're still getting it up and running, so I suppose it's to be expected. We had a slight juggling of officers, but I think that will iron itself all out nicely. I've been very pleased with the current officers, regardless. I need to submit some pattern reviews to the site. I can think of a few that I've done recently from patterns (Matt's shirt... I'll have to find my notes). I also need to send in my idea for our guild logo. Can't forget that!

After the meeting, Matt and I went up to the shop to play some D&D. It was the first game of this campaign, so we'll see how it goes. I do believe fun was had by all, though.

And now, I just got my sewing machine back from the shop, so I'm going to get started on my Truly Victorian Fantailed Skirt. I'm going to make it without the train, as I'm making a walking outfit. I think I'll use some of my brown velvet as trim. We'll see, but that's what's up next! Tonight I should be cutting out the pattern!

Lessee. The first weekend of September (the 2nd & 3rd) was great. Friday the 1st I went to a birthday/new job/farewell/welcome-home party. There were like five guests of honor, with two birthdays, one person back from the military, one person starting a new career, and one leaving an old job. Then Saturday I got fitted in the dress for [livejournal.com profile] sandrayln's wedding. She picked good colors, and I got to pick my own style within some parameters, so over all, I'm very happy about the dress. Yay, Sandrayln! :D I still need to pick up the dress from her mom, heh.

After getting fitted, Matt and I headed out to Anna to visit with my brother and his family. We pretty much just hung out all day, watching movies, visiting, going on long walks, etc. And had some very yummy home-made ice cream.

Monday I worked a half-day (whee!), but I sure paid for it Tuesday and Wednesday. The hard drive on my computer at work crashed. Died. Kaput. I was able to log in safe mode and I saved all my word docs and spreadsheets, but I totally forgot to back up my emails. I lost three years worth of saved emails and worst of all, I lost all the work email addresses. Well, and any pending emails in my in-box. Uck. I'm still trying to remember what things I still had outstanding.

Luckily, this past weekend was quite fun. I got to spend two days in a row with my sister, which I haven't done in way too long. We went to an Indian Powwow at Traders Village in Grand Prairie. Then we also went shopping (mostly window, heh) down at Perth Street. I still need to get some velveteen, but since I haven't settled on a color, I'm limited.

We also played the Star Wars RPG. I totally dig my character in that game. I'm sad to see it indefinitely postponed, as two of the players will be out for several months, since they are about to have twin infants to juggle.

I also had my first Thai lesson last night at the wat in Keller. This is going to be a real challenge, but at least there are a lot of people who are very encouraging. Ugh. But the tones! I am so going to butcher it for a long time. At least I can actually hear the difference in tones. Replicate it? Now that is gonna take some time.

The upcoming weekend: costumes, guns, and gaming. Sounds like a good combo to me! Except I have to clean my house first. Heh.

Friday June 23 was Matt's birthday. We went to Les Miserables for his present, and ate at the buffet that is there at the theater. Overpriced, but I ate enough very tasty rare prime rib to make it worth while. The show itself was great. I think the actor who played Jean Valjean was one of the best tenors I have heard. Cozette was a bit shrill for my taste, though. Eponine was in excellent form, as was Javert. I got chills at various moments and was moved to tears during at least one of Jean Valjean's scenes. It was a beautiful evening.

That Saturday, Matt went shooting with some friends, and [livejournal.com profile] finari and I went to the lake and hung out with [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky. I had a wonderful time. I think the highlight of my day was the ride in the boat across the lake at sunset. Of course, the golf cart chase was fun, too. And meeting a lot of the people at the boat club, especially Connie. And chatting with my wonderful girlfriends. And shopping at BecArt. In all, a wonderful, relaxing day.

Monday the 26 had things back to usual. Work during the day, WoW or chores or movies in the evening. Thursday I got together with friends and thoroughly enjoyed myself, as usual.

Friday evening had Matt and I in Dallas at Shakespeare in the Park. We watched The Tempest, which was awesome. I had never seen it before, and the performances were solid. This season they're doing that and a musical version of Midsummer Night's Dream, and early fall at the Addison location they will be doing Much Ado About Nothing. The "Junior players" will be doing The Comedy of Errors at the end of July, so I think I'm going to try to catch that, too.

Saturday we did chores in the morning and hung out at [livejournal.com profile] finari and [livejournal.com profile] narkeys's house and made super hero characters while watching Sky High and The Incredibles. Matt's planning on running a super hero game for the big group. I'm so looking forward to that, as it'll be losely based off our City of Heroes guild on Virtue. Heh. It will be a hoot. He's reserved the AGOT game for our visits up to OKC where our friend Glen is moving this fall for law school.

Sunday was relatively relaxed. Monday I had work in the morning, then lunch with my co-workers, a friend, and Matt, then I took off from work around 3pm and chilled out at the house with my love.

The 4th was full of fun. We got up at 7am to go to the park for a church flag raising ceremony, breakfast, and activities. I got to learn the Virginia Reel, which was a blast. Matt and I really need to go take some dance classes together. I know he would enjoy them, too.

Which reminds me (tangent!), recently, I think last week, I watched an episode of So You Think You Can Dance over at [livejournal.com profile] finari's house and it reminded me that I need to learn the waltz. And a few of the other more historical dances done in the ballroom. I would absolutely love to twirl around a ballroom in a historical gown with Matt in his Coldstream Guard uniform, when it comes in. Of course, I now need to make a ball gown. I'm thinking 1880s... or early Napoleonic...

Back to the 4th.... after the morning's activities, we headed over to Grand Prairie where the family thing was gathering. In spite of the fact that no one RSVP'ed to my mom (she forgot to ask for an RSVP, and since my family is too laid back, no one said anything), she had a decent showing, although I think the total attendance was "only" around 20-ish. Much fun was had. Volley ball, water balloon cannons/sling-thingies in the parking lot, chasing around of the Lex, reading children's books about the Revolution and key patriots, although none of them even mentioned Gen Nathanael Greene!

Heh. While Mom and I were filling up the water balloons in the kitchen, we were keeping an eye on the Lex (who will be two in October) while his mom and pop were playing volley ball. We gave him a water balloon that was only partially filled and he entertained himself with that for quite a while, until finally, while exploring the fascinating texture of the malleable rubber, he squeezed it tight then bit it. It sprung a tiny leak, and he explored by further squeezing the balloon, which of course burst. He was so shocked. Mom and I had a fit of giggles, and promptly gave him another. He played with that one for a while, then he chomped down on it and this one burst in his face. Again, the shock! And of course the giggles, and another passed down to him.

After hanging out with my family, we went to the Wat to pick up Matt's mother and have dinner together. Just before sunset, the sun came out and I saw the absolutely most beautiful rainbow I have ever seen. I could see it from end to end, unobstructed, and because the sun was setting, the colors were bright and vibrant against the dark grey clouds behind it. It was breathtaking, and I watched until it faded.

Oh, and I have this evil plan that will unveil itself on Friday. Some of my friends already know, and to them I say: My plan is coming together.... Muahahah! Fear me!
jaelie: (Default)
So, the weekend of June 10 was a blast. I worked at the art show with [livejournal.com profile] annawick and [livejournal.com profile] wyshadara and other nice people. Annie and I were door nazis. Heh. It really made the time pass quickly, though, and for the most part no one gave us any trouble. There was one moment of excitement when Diana, who was in charge of the show, caught someone taking pictures and she (quite rightly) blew a gasket. The dude left cursing, so Wysh and my brother-in-law chased him down and took him to security. Heh. After my shift ended, I had some time to run around the place with Matt, Shaun, Pat, and Pat's girl Cynthia. Saturday evening I helped with the art auction as a "Vannah."

There were four of my cousins and another sibling at the con, too, and of course Annie. Practically a family reunion, although I didn't even know Trevor was there til his mom sent me a picture of his costume.

Sunday was nice and mellow, ending the day at [livejournal.com profile] narkeys's and [livejournal.com profile] finari's place. We hung out, visited, and watched more anime (I know, it's a shocker). Monday the 12th I went to work, then at lunch headed home and finished watching Ghost in the Shell, then took Shaun to airport. All in all, it was a good ending to a good week.

Lessee. For my own future reference, I watched more TV that week than I have in a very long time:

3x3 Eyes
Deeper Samurai Kyo
Ghost in the Shell
Oh My Goddess
Peace Maker

I think that's everything...

Oh, and on Thursday night, we put out the old A/C and the old fridge for the city to pick up on Friday morning. The city picked up the old A/C unit, but left a note on the fridge that said "Necesidad contactar inspector de freeon." Hah. Did I mention that we live in a barrio? Well, that comes with some benefits. Armed with that knowledge, we just left the fridge out and it disappeared on Sunday sometime. Heh. It didn't necesidad contactar inspector after all.

Tuesday had me back at work, and life went back to normal. Then, this past Saturday morning and day, Matt and I headed out to Anna to hang out with Rob, Sioux and Kyr. We hung out, watched Chronicles of Riddick, etc. I think one day we're going to have to plan an outing to Ikea, since I've never been and it's on the way. That evening we played the Star Wars game up at the shop, which was fun, as usual.

Sunday after church, I went to Mom and Dad's to hang out and visit for Father's Day, but missed the first DFWCG class ;_; They did the paper dress forms, so I'm totally bummed that I missed. I even designed a logo for the DFWCG, heh. It's um very basic and not artistic, but for me it's not bad. At least it's something, and maybe some of the elements in it will help someone else come up with something better. Or it won't get used at all, which is alright, too, heh. I'm not artistic at all. :P

Monday, Tuesday and today have me back at work, etc, so now it's back to my normal boring stuff. ^_^

I think I need to start cleaning out the garage. It's needed it for quite some time, heh.

Lessee. It's been a bit since my last update. I had most of this scribbled out on Friday's lunch, but now it's turned into the week and a half update. Heh.

So... another very long, rambling update...

Friday March 31 was good. I spent the morning hanging out at the house with the Verizon Fios guy. Well, I spent it cruising the internet and playing a little WOW while he installed our new Fios. After he left, I went to Golden D'Or (whose name still cracks me up - Golden of Gold??), since they were having their marvelous sale in their discount room. I picked up the most beautiful bronze chenille brocade at $1 per yard that will turn into mine and Matt's Elizabethan outfits for next year's faire. Matt's outfit will get most of it and I'll have it as accent colors. I'm thinking I'll use black velveteen for the main color on mine. Afterward, I got my car inspected and brakes fixed. Then [livejournal.com profile] finari and [livejournal.com profile] narkeys came over and Finari and I sewed while our boys fiddled around on the computers.

Oh, yeah. Our refrigerator died that Friday at some point, but luckily we have a chest freezer and I was able to move all the frozen foods out and some of the refrigerated stuff. I also resurrected Matt's tiny, old college fridge, which by some miracle still functions. Sometime in the near future, we'll get a repairman out to look at it. If it costs less than $300 to get it fixed, I'm thinking we'll go that route. Whee!

On Saturday April Fool's day, Matt and I went back to Harry Hines for matching fabric for Matt's Italian Pendragon. We found it at $19 a yard, but of course since we only needed the one yard, it was fine. After that we headed out to Anna to hang out with Rob, Sioux & Kyr, and Sioux's sister Terri and Terri's daughter Emma while Matt hung out in their kitchen making his hat. Lots of fun!

Sunday April 2 had Matt and I back in Anna (we should have just stayed the night, heh) with Mom and Dad joining us as well. Around 2pm I headed to Arlington to spend the rest of day and afternoon with Annie and Lex. He is getting more fun every time I see him. He even said, "Hi, Yay!" when I walked in the door, and I am convinced he was saying my name. ^_~

Monday and Tuesday of last week had me doing crazy work stuff involving massive database updates for discontinued parts. That evening I spent time with [livejournal.com profile] elizagoth and [livejournal.com profile] finari. We had a marvelous dinner then went to Hancock’s, then visited and started on our sewing. Elizagoth had to leave a bit early, though. Boohiss.

On Wednesday I finished sewing up the underskirt for the pink to loan to Jeanette. I'm not pleased with the pink's fit (bought it off eBay, silly me. Yet another reason to learn to sew for myself), so if it fits Jeanette, I think I may give it to her along with one of my old chemises.

Thursday evening Matt and I went to Phantom of the Opera at the music hall in Dallas. We got all dressed up - I wore my silver from the reception six and a half years ago, and Matt wore his very nice grey pinstriped suit. We went with [livejournal.com profile] finari and [livejournal.com profile] narkeys, and had a great time. We saw the Merediths from our old ward in Denton, and we also saw my uncle Jared and aunt Ginny, plus their kids. That was funny! We got to chat a bit with Jared and CJ during intermission. Jared's current hobby is rock climbing and rappelling. CJ is studying to be a DO. Cool.

Friday morning at work I had fun with garb, since I got Miriam to try on my ren wench stuff, heh. That evening we had Phlan gaming up at the shop and hit 20th level after three years of play. Sweet. Now to see if we survive the Big Boss. Bosses. Yeah. We're gonna die.

Saturday was opening weekend for Scarborough Faire. A lot of my friends and co-workers went. I also saw the parents, who also had Lex with them. That afternoon I met some people from the DFWCG email group. I so want to have a craft day with them, since I have so much to learn. I need to learn how to do cartridge pleats. And hand sewn eyelets... After faire, Matt and I headed home to pick up the hound and then headed to the shop for some Star Wars gaming.

Sunday was mellow and relaxing. This morning as I got a "Warning" from the city again. Sheesh!! This time it was for parking my green car in my driveway, but my car blocked the sidewalk. I could scream. My neighbors park ON THEIR LAWN during the weekends, and Sunday afternoon at 3pm (per the slip) I get a warning for parking in my driveway? I mean, a police officer stopped in front of my house, took time to fill out the card stock paper warning, got out of his car, and put it under my windshield wiper. Was it really that slow yesterday? Bah. Why didn't the officer just issue the warning about the sidewalk thing a year ago when they gave me a warning for my old white car with expired tags, which was in my driveway, too? *sigh* I guess I'll be parking the Hyundai on the street from now on. Facing the correct direction, of course. They actually give tickets for parking on the wrong side of the street. I guess it's good that the police patrol my neighborhood during the day....?

Anyway...

My current Big Goal - by this time next year I will have an Elizabethan noblewoman's outfit. Yeah, it'll be off for Scarborough's time period, but so be it. I can do it!

Lessee.... What have I been up to?

Last Thursday Taltos gave me a big scare. I was over at a friend's house when I got a call from Matt, who said that Taltos was missing - he had escaped through our open backyard gate. Which reminds me. I need to buy some combination locks for our gates, since I think it was our neighbors' children who got into our back yard. Matt and I never use the gate. Anyway, I ran home to search the neighborhood. I drove through the neighborhood carefully and slowly but no luck. So while Matt stayed at home and called Animal Control (in case they picked him up before we found him), I wandered around on foot, worried sick. I slowly walked back home only to be met halfway by Matt who told me the hound had returned home, none the worse for wear. Whew!

Saturday was a lot of fun. That morning (early!) Matt and I drove out to Pilot Point to some slaughter house to pick up some suet. Matt needs it to make puddings or some such. Oh yeah. When I say "some" suet, it's like 10 lbs!!

After that, we headed to the Dallas Museum of Art to go to the Mayan exhibit with my family. Missed Chris, Mary, and Aaron since they didn't come. Sioux and Dave didn't come to the museum but showed up for the later stuff. The exhibit was very interesting. Not as much eye candy as the Chinese exhibit last year, but very interesting none the less. I didn't know, but the Mayans used cacao beans as currency. Smart people. Mmm. Chocolate. One of their feast beverages was warmed water with chocolate, chile, honey, and some sap that was a frothing agent. Mmm. My favorite piece of art on exhibit was a ceramic pot that had a god, depicted as an old man, riding a peccary. Heh. Oh and the frog in the bowl sculpture. That one made me laugh.

I renewed my membership, too, since some of the exhibits later this year will certainly be worth visiting as well. Upcoming are the art of Louis Comfort Tiffany starting in June with more than 120 of his pieces, and then a Van Gogh exhibit with about fifty of his works in late October. Both really sounded interesting! And I only have to go three times to make up the membership expense, plus it's tax deductible. ^_~

After the museum, we headed over to Ian & Nikki's new place. Wow, what a beautiful home they're making! And I finally got to see Taltos play with a dog that understood Taltos's play-speak. Ian & Nikki have a boxer named Bart and the two dogs had a blast chasing each other around the back yard, heh. It was fun watching them. I wished there was a bigger play area just to see how fast and far they could go.

While there, I also played with Kyrie (of course). I gave her Matt's jedi robe muslin test-run that was way too small for Matt. I trimmed down the sleeves and bottom hem, which she'll re-hem using her new sewing machine. Then we pretended to be rulers of a small country. I can't recall if we named the country, though. Anyway, we carefully planned an assault of the DMA to capture our enemy country's leader, who was of course hiding in the DMA's restaurant. The DMA, as you must know, was merely a front for our enemy's nefarious activities. We had a detailed blue-print of the building, which facilitated our attack (ie the program guide had the building layout ^_~). Princess Kyrieann led the assault, while I, being queen and more recognizable, stayed back and monitored the assault from our headquarters on the stairs.

Matt did some sewing recently and figured out how to make flat caps. He did that and a sash for his italian outfit. I wonder if we'll need another sewing machine soon....

Usually during my lunch break I head over to [livejournal.com profile] finari and [livejournal.com profile] narkeys's house to eat and to take our dogs out for a walk. Yesterday was no exception, but I also got to meet another greyhound on our walk. This hound was a good inch and a half taller than my own, and I thought Taltos was tall! Taltos has more muscle definition thanks to his foster-dad and his race training. Taltos's foster-dad used to walk him a good seven miles a day. Their boy had never raced before, as they rescued him when he was six months old. He was such a sweety, of course. Fawn brindle with a lot more fawn than black, and soft, soft fur. He gave me nose kisses, too. What a cutie!

Last night I dreamt of a greyhound, too. There was mass civil chaos (a disaster? I don't know) and for some reason I was taking an El into Dallas, when I found a greyhound puppy on the floor by my feet in a plastic bag. Yes. But this is a dream, so of course it makes no sense. :P I scooped it up and unwrapped it and took it home with me. It turned out that I wasn't sure whether not it was an actual greyhound or a lurcher, but I wanted to keep it none the less. So maybe I need to get Taltos a brother. ^_~

Oh, yeah. I was quite disappointed by the costumes from War and Peace. The cover gave me such hope, too. The story was ok, since I haven't read the book, but the costumes were all wrong. ;_; The waists were just under the ribcage, instead of the imperial style under the breasts as it should have been. I think I need to start a search for decent (they don't have to be spectacular) films that have good, fairly accurate costumes set in the Napoleonic era... Oh, yeah. With women in the film, too, since I already have all the Horatio Hornblower (with Ioan Gruffudd) and Sharpe's (with Sean Bean). :P

Oh! I just found out via IMDB that there's going to be another Sharpe's movie! Whee!

Tonight, sewing with [livejournal.com profile] finari!
jaelie: (Default)
I spent the last Saturday in February with the sister and had a blast. We confused her in-laws for a sec because they didn't know she had cut her hair. Heh.

During the week, I played a lot of WoW, and hung out with the sister again on Thursday. I also got a little sewing done with [livejournal.com profile] finari on Friday - we got our bloomers done, heh. They turned out quite cute, in my humble opinion, though I still have a long way to go on what I need to learn.

This recent Saturday was Irish Festival, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. We took the hound with us, and he was beside himself with excitement. It also seems that he has recovered from his child-phobia, since he allowed every child that approached him to pet him without flinching or going to Bermuda. We hooked up with [livejournal.com profile] narkeys and [livejournal.com profile] finari before we even walked in the gate, and Matt ran into [livejournal.com profile] annawick and the Lex before the gates opened, too. We hung about and listened to Brother and Seamus Stout, and a pipe and drum band.... North Texas Caledonians? I can't remember. Rob, Sioux and Kyr showed up while we were listening to Brother, so we hung out with them, too. I did a bit of light shopping but was watching my spending pretty closely, so I didn't go overboard.

After the festival, Matt and I (and of course the hound), went over to Rob & Sioux's to hang out and chat some more. We stayed there far too late, heh. We left around 3am (zzzzz!), which made getting up in the morning for church interesting. After church, I just settled on the couch and read my niece's Animorph books (the first two of the series), which were quite amusing. Especially considering that Kyrie's favorite TV show is SG-1, and there is a pretty basic similarity between the two. As in the evil aliens for both the TV show and the book are slugs that go in your ear and posses/control the body and mind of the hapless humans. Heh. That's pretty much the only similarity straight off, but I found it very interesting.

Yesterday was more WoW, and today is sewing again with [livejournal.com profile] finari. I'm going to work on Matt's shirt and she's going to be working on her partlet. Fun, fun! :)
jaelie: (Default)
Well, lessee....

We helped Rob & Sioux move on the 28th. Almost everyone showed up to help, so we got a lot done. I rode around with Ian and Nikki back and forth, followed closely by my niece Kyrie. It was nice to be able to work together, and visit. I got some good Lex time in, too. After all the work and some lunch, we chilled out at their new home and watched Batman Begins. Matt strained his back, but didn't feel it until Sunday, and he spent the whole day in bed. Ick. He's much better now. ^_~

This most recent Friday, I hung out at [livejournal.com profile] lolafae's house with [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky and [livejournal.com profile] finari. It was supposed to be our girls' game, but our storyteller wasn't feeling well so we just hung out and visited, plus since Tempest hadn't seen Serenity, we watched that. I also got to admire Lola's new puppy. Cute! But I have to admit, I stand by my adopt-an-adult, I think. I remember having to potty train Knight and what a headache that was.

Things at the shop are going well but crazy. We got a huge order in from one of our regular customers, plus another huge contract job. So I am privileged to be able to put in some extra time this coming Saturday... This is when I get to pay my dues for working salary. Well, times like this, and conventions. *sigh*

I've been sick for the past few days, too. Not super sick, but I did miss work on Monday because my throat was totally killing me. Now it has moved from my throat to my chest like a plain old-fashioned cold. I have to admit that annoying as it is to hack and cough, I much prefer the old-fashioned cold to the terrible sore throat I had on Monday.

And best news of all, Matt got a job offer today, and if the background check goes well (which it should) he will start his new job on the 20th. Whee! *cheer!!* Can we say hello to health insurance for the first time in literally years?!!?

K. That's it for now. I know, short and quick. But I get to go home in ten minutes to play some WoW and cuddle the hubby! ^_^

[livejournal.com profile] finari and [livejournal.com profile] lolafae came over on Tuesday evening. Finari and I visited while Lola painted her first miniature. It was a very clean job, which I can't stress how important that talent is when painting 25mm to 30mm figures. Even though it was her first miniature to paint, I know it won't be long before she's well surpassed me in skill. Yay! :D Then I can bug her for pointers. ^_~

Wednesday evening after work I went over to my parents' to help Mom with Thanksgiving prep. We peeled potatoes, peeled apples, and watched Ella Enchanted and Sahara and chatted. Actually, Sahara made me want to read Clive Cussler books, which was kind of odd. I've been familiar with his name because I worked in retail at book stores for six years, but never had the inclination to read any of his novels. Then I watch one movie loosely based a book of his, and now I want to read him? Interesting. Heh. I guess the movie served its purpose. And I haven't been reading enough, so it's about time I jumped back in to my love-affair with fiction. ^_^

Thursday morning had me doing more food prep. Then around noon Anne, Darryl, John, and Matt showed up, shortly followed by Rob, Sioux, and Kyr. While the turkey cooked, we visited and played Apples To Apples, which is a fun word association game. Then I ate lots of turkey and dressing and promptly fell into a food coma. Mmm. Dressing. And pie. Kyrie and I went for a walk to where the cattails grow by the railroad tracks. I have never played with cattails before and discovered that they're like dandylions times one hundred. We burst and scattered about three or four cattails each. I am officially the Fairy Princess of Ladybugs, and Kyrie is the Fairy Princess of Snowfall. That or Daughter Nature. Actually, she couldn't settle on her official title. That evening, after most everyone had gone, I colored Care Bears with Kyrie in the camper trailer while the adults visited in the house. I slept well that night.

Friday during the day, Matt and I WoW-ed, and then around 7pm we started watching the rest of SG1 season 1, and went well into Saturday morning. I think I can safely say that Matt and I are now SG1 addicts. Heh.

I woke up around noon on Saturday and went to the shop to pick up checks and stuff. We dropped by Anne/John/Darryl's place to pick up our car and chatted with them for a bit. Then we went to Justin to play in our social D&D game, where we (well, most of us) actually survived the Beholder.

Sunday had of course church, then more relaxing. We watched The Little Princess with Shirley Temple, and Road to Bali with Bob Hope. Now, back to Monday and the mad catch up game of work missed and Christmas craziness. Whee!

Hm. Thinking out loud here. Finari and I recently played some Guild Wars (her first time), although I am still very much the newbie, heh. My top level is 8 I think. Anyway, I am wondering if we can suck [livejournal.com profile] lolafae and [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky into it, as well. It's like MMORPG-lite, and seems to be very user friendly so far, and of course, best of all, there's no monthly fee. So even if we only hooked up every now and then, it could still be feasible for them to get into it. ^_^

It's lunch, but I think I'm going to do more work until my rice is done cooking...

Thursday I hung out with friends, then Friday evening I went to the lake for a slumber party and the girls' game. We left Denton around 7pm after a quick stop at the grocery store for supplies. I spent a wonderful hour and a half chatting with Anne and [livejournal.com profile] finari on our drive.

We arrived at the lake around 9pm. [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky and [livejournal.com profile] lolafae were already out and about, but Tim saw us drive up and had us hop on his golf cart. He scooted us over to a field and we got to see several deer just barely beyond the headlights of his cart. Then we went to the point where the others were and spent some time star gazing. [livejournal.com profile] finari saw the Milky Way Galaxy for the first time. She also saw like six falling stars. After that, we went back to the house, watched Van Helsing and fell asleep.

Saturday morning we woke up, showered, and had breakfast. Then we had our game.

Gamer geek stuff now... It was 100% combat this time, which was tolerable after about nine (or ten?) games of pure role-play. ^_~ [livejournal.com profile] finari's character first changed (whee!), [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky's character awoke, and my character, after finally losing the desperate hold on her own sanity, first changed, too. [livejournal.com profile] lolafae's character awoke last game, so she was already aware that things were not all as they seemed.

I think Lola is an Akanthus mage, and Tempest is a Thyrsus. Anne had an awesome idea for having them choose their Path. Anne chose one card to represent each Path and one card to represent each Arcana, and of course grouped the cards in threes, each Path and its two Arcana. Then, with out telling them any of this, she had the two of them chose the set that they felt represented their character the best. It worked out pretty well. ^_^

Finari and I both are Hunters in Darkness New Moons. Irakka? Heh. I still need to learn all the silly new terms for these old concepts. Although Anne already told us not to put too much stock into the fluff, so I think I'll just skip all that. This should be interesting... Finari's character is more of the sneaky type, and my character is more of the fighting type. It'll be interesting to see what different niches we work out for ourselves.

It works, though. I'm glad this new setting is more lenient on the mixing of the genres...

We played for about three hours, then had lunch and went into Denison to do some shopping at a little herbal shop. I picked up some henna, some crushed walnut shells, a pair of hair sticks, and some bergamot candles. Mmm.

When we finished in Denison, we went back to Tempest's place and put our characters on their new sheets. Whee! Then we went back out to the point to turtle-watch and catch the gorgeous sunset. After the sunset, we went back to the house and played with fire and roasted marshmallows. We left around 9pm to head back to civilization. It's so nice out at that lake.

Sunday morning's lesson was about music, so I brought my clarinet and played name that tune with the three-year-olds, who thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm very lucky they're not critics because I am badly out of practice, heh. Then I let them play around with Matt's chanter, which is virtually indestructible. They enjoyed that, too. We went to my parents' house around 1pm. [livejournal.com profile] annawick and the Lex were already there, so we lounged around and played with the munchkin. Rob, Sioux, and Kyr showed up around 7pm, so we hung around for another hour or two. Kyr is getting so BIG. I can't believe she's nine already.

Also, Mom and Dad picked up a camper trailer, one of those pop-up tent dealies, which I thought was very cool. It'll be better for Dad, too, since camp set up will be way easier, and they love camping. Of course, we never camped in such luxury as kids, but I know they'll really enjoy it.

Monday evening after work, I just had a very chilled out, mellow evening.

Tuesday evening we had dinner at Buco di Beppo with my mother-in-law, our sister-in-law, Jessie, and the monkeys, plus their friend Max. Matt taught the monkeys the meaning of "selling your best friend down the river," so as to properly embarrass a friend in front of their family, where as I hurriedly explained the meaning of "Too Much Information!!" Those boys are so silly. ^_~ After dinner we adjourned to Audt's house, where I was soundly defeated at chess by a nine-year-old, in like six moves. Heh. I wasn't surprised, though. Danny is one very sharp kid.

Last night, I relaxed and watched several episodes of Firefly. I love that show. I can't wait until Serenity comes out on DVD!

Matt's taking his mom to the airport today, where she's heading back to Bangkok for a few months. We'll be out to the farm to do some winter maintenance, and perhaps start going out there for some shooting now that she's gone... She doesn't really like guns, so while she's home it's a little more difficult. Plus she always has a to-do list when we go out there. ^_~

Also, we're getting a new toilet. Our water bill doubled this past month. Ugh. The one we've got is 30 years old and the water runs through it all the time. Matt's going by Lowes to pick us out a new one and then we'll have it installed. Once that's done, we'll eventually have to look at getting our air conditioner's condenser fixed, since it leaks, too. Luckily it's over the tub so it just leaks straight down the drain, although it's stained the tub. /sigh. Ah, the joys of home ownership!

Work is going well. We're starting to gear up for the holidays, and the huge influx of orders that comes with it. We got a small taste this week of what is to come. It's going to mean overtime for the hourlies, and longer hours for the salaried. This is when pay-back for being salary comes into play, heh. We have an awesome production crew, some real quality employees, so I am confident that things will go smoothly, if a bit hectic.

Now I need to start working on Christmas stuff. List time!

November 2

Yesterday was a beautiful day. Not simply because of the marvelous, 70 degree, sunny with a slight breeze weather, but because it was an emotionally and mentally fulfilling day.

Matt and I celebrated the sixth anniversary of our wedding.

2003 we totally forgot it. Whoops. Luckily we both forgot so neither of us was upset. ^_~

2004 we celebrated by adding our pooch to the family.

November 2, 2005, we had a beautifully lazy morning. Matt cooked breakfast while I walked the pooch. After that, we went to the Dallas World Aquarium and wandered around for several hours. Aquarium is a bit of a misnomer, too, as the place is actually a really nice, albeit small, zoo. I saw all kinds of critters I don't ever remember seeing before, and as usual, was thoroughly enchanted by the many different breeds of monkeys in their various habitats. My two favorites were the Emperor Tamarins and the Marmosets. The two giant river otters swam at the edge of their glass, practically dancing in the water. I also saw a very cute critter I've never seen before called a Kinkajou.

We watched the penguins get their lunch, and instantly I wanted sushi. So we hung around and watched them eat and swim, then went to lunch at Tokyo One. Mmm. Sushi. And sashimi... My favorites are still yellow tail, salmon (which I can no longer eat cooked, as any time I see it that way I long for it raw), and those lovely Philadelphia rolls. Although I am finally getting a taste for the unagi, too, now that I'm over my texture issues with it.

I'll stop that line of thought now, as I'm making myself hungry again.

After lunch we decided to give the DMA a skip, since none of their current exhibits really call to either of us. Instead, we went and felt very culturally aware as we watched "The Legend of Zorro." ^_~ Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] annawick's warning, I wasn't expecting anything close to reality, so I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Then we headed home and I crashed out very early, while Matt disappeared into his WWII game notes.

Today, I'm well rested and at peace with my own little corner of the world.
jaelie: (Default)
After a stressful work week and the knowledge of more to come this week, I had an amazingly good weekend, although it was primarily just me and Matt hanging out.

Saturday Matt woke up early for some SWG to help our co-worker/friend Kevin and I slept in 'til about nine. I then lazily got up, walked the dog, and vegged before jumping on SWG for a bit myself. At about 1pm, we headed out to the farm for a general status check. The lawnmower's battery was dead again. The monkeys (our twin nephews Sammy and Danny) killed it. They left the key turned "on" while they were playing on it. Although I thought to chase them off it when I saw them, I neglected to check the position of the key, which of course burned out the battery.

Since the post office was closed, we couldn't pick up the mail. It was our fault for the late start, but neither of us were too concerned. We decided that we'd head out Sunday evening and just stay the night and pick up the mail on Monday morning when the post office opened.

So Sunday morning, we went to church. Then, while Matt took care of other duties, I went and told my pop happy Father's Day, gave him his present, and hung out for a while chatting with Mom while Dad napped. Heh. One very productive thing came out of the visit, though. Mom shared her house organizational list thingy, which I am going to copy this week before I return it to her. I needed the pointers on getting my house organized and Mom's list was very practical and looked like a really good place to start. Hm. I'm going to need more shelves.

After I finished up at Mom and Dad's, I went back home and we packed up our stuff (plus some laundry since our dryer has finally had the schnitzel) and our dog and headed out to the farm. When we got there, I took Taltos on a walk. He loved it, and was sniffing around eagerly, prancing, ears up and tail flying. All of a sudden, he boinged! straight up, and a cottontail went dashing out of the tall grass. He lunged after it, but I was expecting something of the sort and already had a good hold on his leash.

But, oh, he wanted that bunny!

Once we got settled in, we discovered to our dismay that while the air conditioner did blow air, it did not blow cold air. Heh. So we set up the fan in the living room window, which almost immediately made a difference in the room temperature, and watched the first disk of The Stand. Later we moved the fan to the bedroom window and slept.

It was a cool night, around 70ish degrees, so we slept well, got up early (for us), headed to the post office and picked up his mother's mail, and headed in to work.

I think I'm ready for this week. We'll see. ^_~

Today is the day of the lj-cuts! Prepare yourselves...

We spent the day before Christmas with Matt's family - his mom, our sister-in-law Audt, and the monkeys. Er, I mean our twin nine-year-old nephews Sammy and Danny, and twelve-year-old niece Jessica. Matt's brother Nick is in severe disfavor with the family, and rightly so. That's family drama, though, and not my own so I'll leave it at that. We had lunch at Tokyo One (mmm sushi!!), then spent the afternoon at various shops getting last minute stuff with the monkeys. It was fun, and I was happy to spend time with Matt's family. That evening, after I finished up all the cleaning with some help from Matt, we relaxed and played WoW.

Christmas day was primarily spent at my house - the family came over and we exchanged gifts and stories and visited and otherwise chatted away a few hours. Then everyone split, some to go to Grandpa and Gramma vB's place, others to head home, and Matt and I went to the wat to visit with his mom and give her Christmas present to her. I love that wat. It is both beautiful and ornate, yet peaceful and inspiring. Anyway, she was having fun teaching some people how to cook Thai deserts. Mmm. We sampled. Hehe. Then after a while with her, we headed back home for more relaxation.

Lessee, what did I give/get this year? )

I think the two favorite gifts I received this year are the clarinet (I've been wanting to get back into music), and the training courses with our dog.

I've been at a loss as to how to spend quality time with him. We play "Monster!" in the back yard, in which I am the Monster and he is the Super-Fast Uncatchable And Wily Hound. We have one variation to "Monster!" and it's "Squeaky Monster!" where I have a squeaky toy and chase him around with that. He loves both games, heh. Otherwise, I also make it a point to watch a movie with him so I can snuggle and pet him, but mostly I get the feeling that he gets bored. So training class will give us something to do. Yay!

Oh [livejournal.com profile] annawick, do you mind if I invite myself over to your house every now and then? I'm about ready to start painting again, especially since I got myself the new paints. I'm so curious to see how it works out on my pallet, not to mention the figures! I am going to hit WalMart to check out tackle boxes, since the lil one I currently use won't work anymore. I need something relatively small and portable, but that will still hold all 54 colors.

Did Dave like the paints that KiD got him? Aaron asked my opinion on what Dave would want, so I gave Aaron the hook up. Did you know I love your husband? He's awesome. I'm glad you gave me another brother. ^_^ Oh, and another nephew, too, heh.

Tomorrow will begin my crack-of-dawn Tuesday/Thursday trips out to the pasture again. The weather has been horrible, so I haven't been out in several weeks. I don't mind the cold so much, but there is no way I'll go out and play with horses and get covered in mud, then show up at work all muddy and icky. However, the cold, on the other hand, is defeatable, because at least I'll still be presentable at work. Heh. Emma ("my" horse) has probably forgotten me. I'm going to have to be doing some wooing. Now where did I put those apples?

And now the gamer MMOG nerd talk...WoW! )
jaelie: (Default)
Got a call from my ma yesterday asking if we could do Christmas at my house. Of course we said yes, but now I have to do some very fast and thorough cleaning. I'm not complaining, however, since I've been whining about the mess but lacking the exact motivation to do something about it. Nothing quite like having the whole family over to make me want to clean, heh.

Wonder if I should tell my sibs they can bring their dogs over. Guess it'll depend on how cold it is. If it's nice, then the dogs can hang out in the back yard. Otherwise, having three dogs, all of 'em over 90 pounds, in my little house could make for an interesting day. Especially since my dog is already Taltos Underfoot... I'll give it a little more thought after my house is clean.

There really isn't much going on. Just the normal Christmas craziness.
