Well, I have a new project. It wasn't even on my "to-do" project lists. Oh, well. It's what I am currently most interested in. Bizarre how easily I got sucked into the Victorian era...

I already bought the pattern, plus the petticoat pattern, too. I have some green fabric at home in my current stash that I think will work just fine with it, even though it is synthetic. I have the corset that my sister [livejournal.com profile] annawick made that will need only a few adjustments to be adequate (although I want a new one like her red velvet one... that pattern is much more flattering...).

I chose the Truly Victorian 1882 Tea Gown to start my exploration into Victorian sewing since it looks relatively simple. Since it's from the brief "Natural Form" style, I won't require a bustle. All I'll need to make is the petticoat and gown, since I already have all the other underthings. I'll be doing the... um... normal looking back which is the smaller image, not the larger image with the drapey thing. This pattern and the petticoat pattern came in the mail this week:

And the red dress in the below image is my inspiration. I adore it! Mmm. Red! I need some red velvet after I do the test run with my green. Many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jenthompson, from whose wonderful site I stole the image:

Heh. Yeah, I was focused on fantasy outfits for TRF and then BAM! I got hit with the Victorian Stick by way of this weekend's meeting of DFWCG.

Ooo! That red is sooooo gorgeous! I just love Natural Form gowns! I went and looked at that pattern again and now that I've seen it made a couple of times--I so want one.

And I was toying with Regency and early Renaissance ideas, heh. I have a sinking suspicion that the red dress is a morning or house dress (she's reading a letter, not wearing a hat), but I don't care. I still think it'll make a fine dress for Dickens. ^_^ And one day, I WILL make it in that deep red velvet!
