I had a good time at Anne's game on Friday. I think we're finally getting close to solving the mystery. I suck at mysteries, heh, but [livejournal.com profile] finari was sure on a roll! I'm logging my notes on my husband's site, as well as our LJ community. My goal is to get all my notes up before the next game, although my notes will be only from my character's point of view, so a lot of things will be missing.

Saturday I was at the Faire again, this time just with Kev and Sarah and we went in our normal clothes. I got some small trinkets for Mir, and a little necklace for Mom. Kev and Sarah got lots of garb, Sarah winning the garb-envy award again by picking up Pendragon's french court dress in burgundy and gold.

Yesterday being Mothers' Day, of course I went to my parents' house. Mom called and asked me to stop by Kid's place to see if he needed a ride, so I did. Unfortunately, Aaron was feeling sick and was passed out sleeping, so I just let him sleep. I'm very conscious about not wanting to expose Dad to any kind of illness (not that he won't get exposed as a public school teacher. Hm. Oh, well). Anyway, at Mom and Dad's, it was awesome seeing [livejournal.com profile] annawick and Dave and Lex, and my brother Ian showed up, too, though his wife was in Oklahoma with her own mom. My sibs are cool. I like their spouses, too! I know I've said that before, but I stand by it. ^_~

I dropped the pooch off at the vet this morning so he could get his teeth thoroughly cleaned. They're gonna knock him out. They warned me that when I pick him up this afternoon, he may be kind of groggy and want to sleep, and I couldn't help but think when is my dog not sleepy, aside from his walk time?

I had such guilt yesterday, since the vet told me to take away all his food and water after 8pm. Poor dog kept going back to his water bowl and licking the bowl even though it was dry. I also had to close the bathroom door, because he remembered water was in there, too.

He hates getting weighed, heh. Dunno why, but he is scared to death to step on that black pad. Ah, well. He clocked in at 98.7 lbs. Wonder if I should worry about his food intake? Is there such a thing as a fat greyhound? He doesn't look fat, that's for sure...

Commdore won't get on the scale either. It totally freaks him out.

The scale at my vet is on the floor. It's a three inch difference in elevation, tops. It's bizarre that he's so terrified of it, but terrified he is. He "goes to Bermuda" every time he's faced with it.

The one at my vet is also on the floor, but it's about a 6" difference, but he can jump 3 feet in the air and wiggle his butt at the same time, so I'm sure the height isn't an issue. Dogs are goofy.

About your greyhound's weight, the only thing I have to go on is the weight of the hounds I used to bet on. The range would go from 68 (small female) to about 84 tops. Usually at that weight they were old for racing (2 years or so) and slowing down. I'm assuming you're not racing him on the side, so 98 pounds probably is a bit heavy. Poor thing, nobody likes to diet.

Well, the thing is, he's abnormally large for the breed at 32 inches at the shoulder. His racing weight was 80 lbs according to Greyhound Data, and he's only three (he didn't race much, heh). Oh, and here's a pic of him from a couple of months ago from an earlier post:

The thing is, I want him to be healthy. So I've got to find out what this boy's ideal weight is and try to keep him there. I think I'll ask the vet about it today when I pick him up, because if he gets too heavy then surely it will be bad for his back and joints! :(

LOL. Looking at his pedigree I forgot that Taltos had 0 professional races, heh.

I love that name.

Currently all of my animals (aside from numerous fish) have human names, even if some are from Dumas.

I almost went for naming him Socrates (mispronounced) in honor of my last dog Knight, whom we called Kaniggit. ^_^ But the "realm" that Matt's been writing so much for at work the past year is called Taltos. I looked up its meaning and dug that, too, and then [livejournal.com profile] elizagoth reminded me that it was an Anne Rice novel. So we went with that. ^_^

Forget Anne Rice. I have a hard time believing that if I ever became a blood dependant immortal that I'll also become pretty, brooding homosexual. I don't mind pretty, brooding homosexuals (since I dated one when she was a bit less homosexual), but it just seems odd that *every* vampire in Anne Rice is essentially the same cute gay guy.

Stephen Brust writes far more significantly on Taltos in his Vladimir Taltos series. Very good reading. Loiosh needs his own book. ;)

I never read any Anne Rice. My boss really digs her books, though.

Stephen Brust, eh? Maybe I'll look into his works...
