Totems...

Question for yall, out of sheer curiosity. If you had to pick an animal or thing to be your "totem," what would it be and why?

By totem, I mean a critter that has some meaning to you because either you like what it means mythologically, symbolically, or historically, or that its actual characteristics match your ideas of yourself.

Anyway, for a few of you, I know.

Examples:

I'm going out on a limb, but I think dogdoolb's totem animal is a wolf. I think his tatoos give him away.

fuzake's totem is a coyote.

My parents, back in their hard core scouting days, were given their totems at a jamboree or something. My mom's is a buffalo and my dad's is an eagle.

Something feline in nature. Whether it's a meer kitty cat, or a lion, I'll have to ponder.

Lionesses are the breadwinners, the caretakers, and ultimately, the boss in a very subtle way. I'm also a Leo, so a lion isn't much of a stretch.

It's in the elegant restraint of their movement, the transfixing gaze of their eyes, their lithe and agile power and precision strikes... their ability to silently and intently stalk a goal, their prey. The Queen of the jungle, so to speak.

Hmmmm... NOt sure why, but I'd probably pick a tiger, just because I've always liked them: sleek, quick, beautiful...

BUT, that's not really me.

I never really put any thought into it and there are so many critters to pick from, I wouldn't know where to start.

Maybe a racoon - clever, hated, ugly, night prowler, stubborn, rabid.

I think I'm having an anti-Lauren moment. *sigh*

First of all, I love raccoons. :P I don't care that city ones are not so healthy. In the wild, they're a bit of a varmint for farmers and rural folk, but they're cute and sneaky and smart.

My boss digs horses, too, so if she had a totem that's prolly what it would be.

I read that write up on horse and pegasus. I liked 'em. I need to get to know you better. ^_^

Yeah, whenever this comes up, I always snobbily reply human, because they are from the Kingdom Animalia, and god damn, I'm awefully similar one in looks, characteristics, and personality.
