Quick Update
Apr. 15th, 2004 09:11 pmUpdate:
Things are still crazy at work. My office is pretty much organized how I want it to be, but it still needs some small touches, like pictures on the wall and such. However, to my great aggravation, we still have no internet. Our webguy/tech, Matt, and our good friend Bob have all been working on it all week. The rumor is that it should be live tomorrow, and I'm dreading checking my email. I know I'll have at least 200 to read and respond to. Uck.
Things are also crazy at home. Matt's brother Audt and his family have been in town for ten days (they left this afternoon for Disney Land), so we've been running to and from Matt's brother Nick's house quite a bit. We were supposed to get a family picture done, but that kind of fell through. However, I had an excellent chance to get to know my brothers-in-law much better.
I also had some what of an epiphany. While spending time with my husband's family, I came to the realization that I am the only one that does not speak Thai (I know, duh, right? :P ). In the past, that did not matter so much because everyone also spoke English. However, neither Audt's wife, Ning, nor his two children speak English. The family was put in a slightly uncomfortable situation of having to either translate for them or translate for me. I don't think it's fair to expect Ning to learn to speak English when 3/4 of the family is more comfortable speaking Thai. It is time for me to take advantage of the very inexpensive Thai courses at the Buddhist temple in Keller. I also already have at least one CD that has basic Thai that I can start with. Yep. The fact that it is a tonal language is what I find so intimidating, but it is time for me to be brave and learn it.
I'm studying to take the Ham radio operator test this Saturday, and I am so not prepared for it. Also, I need to clean because friends are coming over tomorrow, tomorrow is trash pick up day, and my mother-in-law is going to spend the night here Monday night before she heads back to Thailand for a few months.
Saturday is going to be crazy but fun. I have the test in the morning but should be done by 10am at the latest. Then I'm going to spend the day with
finari at Scarborough Faire, then stop by a family party before swinging by the party in Carrollton. Heh.
Then I'm going home and playing on my computer dadgummit! I haven't played FFXI all week!
Ok this was longer than I originally planned, so I'm back to cleaning, then nose to the grindstone for that Ham radio operator test...
