I got a call from Mom last night. They just returned from their cruise to Alaska. They had a blast. They have a lot more disposable income now that we're all gone, and I think they are really enjoying the flexiblity that a couple with no children has. It's really cute to hear Ma talk about all the fun things they are able to do now. A cruise, square dancing, regular vacations rather than the one every four years we did growing up. In the past few years, they've been to the Appalacian mountains, Yellowstone, now Alaska, Oregon several times to visit their only grandchild... I'm really happy for them and the fact that they are able to really enjoy their spare time now.
It's also quite something to see how happy they are together, even now, after thirty-five years. They are still best friends, and still sweethearts.
As our own fifth anniversary approaches, here's to hoping that Matt and I are in the same boat thirty years from now.
