Woohoo! The floor is down. It took us from about 11am to about 4pm to do it all, snags and mistakes included. We're $150 under budget, too! We just need to add the sideboards (or whatever they're called), and the interfaces between the hall and dining room. Oh and add felt to the bottom of all our furniture going back in that room. While we're at it, I'm going to child/dog proof the room, too...

What kind of flooring did you use? New carpet? Tile? Hardwood?

We went with a laminate flooring... one of those fake woods. It looks really nice and was fairly economical. Here's to hoping it endures as the manufacturers proclaim!

I will never voluntarily install carpet in any home I live in. I hate the stuff! ^_~

I still say remove the wall between the kitchen and the livingroom! ;)

We may at some point, but only if we add a room to the back of the house and have to wall off the dining room window. We'd have to look at our different electrical options, too...
