Ted!

Well, we picked up our pup on Saturday. It was really exciting (ok, probably just me. I was feeling very hyper!). His racing name is NXS Father Ted. We're just going to call him Ted, although I'm not sure if he even really knows his name yet. That's something we'll work on very soon.

He's a big boy, especially for a greyhound. I don't know how tall he is, but since greyhounds are a leggy breed and he weighs in at about 90 lbs, you can only imagine. ^_^

His coat is a fawn brindle with tuxedo markings, which is to say, white paws and a white blaze on his chest. He has this adorable little tip of white at the end of his long, curled tail. One thing I find very amusing about his coat is that both my brother Ian and my sister [livejournal.com profile] annawick have brindle coated dogs. Ian has an exuberant boxer named Barney, and [livejournal.com profile] annawick has a sweet dane/pit bull mix named Tony.

Ted's a real sweety. He's still getting used to his new pack and his new home, so his digestion is off, poor boy. When we walk, he's very gentle on the leash, which is nice. If I apply any tension, he immediately slows down or stops depending on the tension applied. His affection is very quiet, although I think as he gets used to us, it will expand a little more. However, from what I've read, greyhounds always have a more quiet love for their people.

We've already kid-tested him and he is very gentle with small children. Fortunately for the children, Ted is not much of a licker. The two children in question were our friend Glen's little ones, Aleis and Charissa, ages four and eighteen months respectively. Aleis kind of just avoided him, but Charissa would follow him around, and when he would turn to look at what was following him, she would panic and say "No!" and cringe away from him. At her "No!" he would just turn away and continue on his way. When he was laying down, they both would come up and pet him a little. It worked out really well.

Matt's going to work half-days most of this week while Ted adjusts. I think Ted will be coming up to work with him for the half-days, as we plan on bringing him up to the office pretty much daily anyway. Since Matt has his own office, he'll just set up a comfy corner and let Ted relax there.

So, for the curious, that is what's going on with our new dog! I'll keep the sappy pet posts to a minimum, though. ^_~ I'm just so happy to have a dog again.
