I mentioned this yesterday - the Regency stays from www.sensibility.com is (are?) my current project.

It's coming along quite well. I have a few pictures to show the progress, anyway. I originally started this technically on the evening before we left for Thailand. At least, that's when I cut out the pieces. ^_^ I had planned on working on it while in transit, and did manage to actually sew the interlining while there - and I must say, threading a needle on a rocking train is quite a feat, and I managed to do it! I was very proud of myself.

As you can see from this picture, I'm laying out the pattern pieces on some white 100% cotton trigger, which I am using for all three layers. I put the pieces for each layer in a separate plastic baggie to keep things more organized for travel. It actually did help quite a bit! In the photo is also the chaos of our packing. ^_^

In this second photo I'm putting in the breast gussets, which according to the pattern directions is the first step. The dark thread is my basting, which I prefer to pinning, in addition to the first few steps of hand sewing the gussets in.

Step 3 was to attach the side back pieces to the center back. This photo shows the basted seam, ready to be stitched.

In Step 4, I had to attach the front to the back pieces. When I put them together and tried it on, I discovered that either my measurements were off or the pattern was off, so I had to take in each side about 2 inches (5 cm). Whee!

Step 5 is adding the straps. I'll be sure to take pictures of that step when I do it on the outer fabric. I have to do each step three times - once for the interlining, once for the lining and once for the outer fabric. Yeah. This is definitely the most complicated piece I've ever done, but I think it's going really well!

More later, as I get closer to finishing!

If I can do it, I know you can! Like most things I imagine that one becomes better with each new item made. Some of the people in the costuming guild that I'm part of are incredibly talented - several make clothing without patterns, which just boggles my mind, heh.
