Note (again): If you want to see any of the pictures larger, just right click and view photo. I made these smaller so they would load more quickly. If you want to view all the photos (these are only a very few!), go to our Thailand 2007 vacation gallery.
wed 4/18:, continued
The night market was fun, and I was right. It is much better at night because although it was warm among the booths (they all had water protection so there wasn't a breeze), it was cool in the gaps between the booths.
thu 4/19:
The morning had us doing some last minute wandering, and we caught the 4:30 pm overnight express train and were on our way. This time I worked on some sewing after I finished my book. I'm pretty proud that I was able to thread my needle while on a rocking train. Go me! Then, of course, some sleep.
fri 4/20:
We arrived in Bangkok at 6am and took a cab over to Audt's and Ning's place. We made sure all our packing was in order, and spent the afternoon with family.
(Fierce samurai Aim. With a plastic sword)
We had our last dinner at a really neat karaoke restaurant. All the karaoke booths were private and completely shut off as little bungalows and the non-karaoke tables were outside. Cool set up. We finished dinner around 8pm, went back to the house and watched Ghost Rider on DVD with the family.
(Matt, me, Art, Audt, Aim, Ning: dinner at the karaoke restaurant)
About 5pm, the abuses to my back finally caught up with me and I was in agony. I've narrowed it down to troubles beginning on our infamous trip to Mae Hong Son. Ten hours in the center of the back seat wreaked havoc on my posture, and let me tell ya, I'm still paying for it. However, after dinner Ning, my wonderful sister-in-law, hooked me up with some very nice pain-killers which I took promptly.
11pm came around and so we headed to the airport and said our goodbyes. My medication was starting to kick in so I was getting a little... off balance, shall we say, and wasn't quite as sad as I could have been.
(Ning, sleeping Aim, Audt, Art, Matt, me: at the airport about to head back to Texas)
sat 4/21:
Our flight departed at 1:15 am and landed in Dallas at 9:30am. Uh-huh. As if the flight was that short. Oh, no. It was four hours to Seoul and two hours at the airport in Seoul, then another twelve from Seoul to DFW. Heh. I slept the whole leg from Bangkok to Seoul and a good portion of the flight from Seoul to DFW. I think part of my sleeping ability must be attributed to the meds, though.
We went to Paul's and picked up our hound, came home and watched TV til we fell asleep.
sun 4/22:
And, as you can see by the time, our clocks haven't completely switched over yet. It's 6am and I'm awake again. Heh. Well, as long as I can make it to 10pm or so, I think I'll be fully switched back over. I'm still on pain meds, but hopefully this silly back will be better soon.
Closing observations on Thailand:
* Motorinos are three passenger vehicles; at least as long as the passengers are Thai.
* Thai stray dogs are smarter than US dogs. They actually really do look for traffic before crossing the street. I saw them do it several times myself.
* Even I can be considered "exotic" in a country full of black haired, black eyed, dark skinned people.
* Even I can get a tan while wandering Thailand. I have gone from totally reflective white to slightly toasted. Ok, very very slightly, but I do have tan-lines from my flip flops to prove it! At least for a day or two before it fades, anyway. :P
* Edit: Oh, yeah! Very important: If you are a first time traveler to Thailand, be sure to take (or buy there) tissues that you can fit in your pocket. I don't think I visited a single public restroom that actually had toilet paper. Oh. And I took a picture of one of the the public restrooms, too. It was an adventure.
(This is a public restroom. I had to take a picture. You have to squat over the bowl to go. Awkward!)
Hm. And I think that's it for now. If I remember anything else, I'll update again. ^_~ For now, it's 6am and I'm still a little achy, so back to being prone for me, and watching some more TV. Maybe an update on the pain meds since it's been about eight hours.... Whee!
