Again with the long time between updates! Let's see. My week days and evenings are all pretty similar (work, WoW, reading, movies, sewing, etc), but my Saturdays this month have been a lot of fun!

On Saturday the 8th, on a whim I went to the Sci-Fi Expo with [livejournal.com profile] finari and [livejournal.com profile] thewolfhound. It was the first time for me to go to that con, and it was a nice little convention. I didn't really see any gaming. In all fairness, though, I didn't look really hard. The dealers' room was fairly small, but attendance was free, so I'm definitely not complaining.

It's all [livejournal.com profile] winterwolf_tx's fault that we went, since he reminded me of it and told me that Alan Tudyk was going to be there. I took my Serenity RPG with me just in case I wanted to get it signed. I was almost stopped by the $20 autograph fee, until I learned that Alan Tudyk was donating 100% of the proceeds to Donate Life. So I got my Serenity RPG book signed, plus a signed picture that I need to get framed and gift to [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky. Heh.

After we finished up at the Expo, we went over and hung out with my sister for a bit, then headed home. Full, fun day!

Then the following Saturday the 15th, Matt, [livejournal.com profile] annawick and I went to a shooting match for SASS in The Boonies, TX. The set up there is really nice, and with more research, Matt has discovered all kinds of SASS sites in Texas. Go figure. Texans like to dress up like cowboys and shoot guns. I am so shocked! And I am so guilty since it sounds like fun to me, too.

So my nifty Victorian gown is getting put on hold before I even start it so I can get a 1880s riding habit put together for the August 19th orientation. As luck would have it, my friend [livejournal.com profile] hellocobweb has a copy of The Cut of Women's Clothes by Norah Waugh that he loaned me, and there is a 1880s riding habit skirt in there that I can copy. Whee! And I'll use my new Truly Victorian pattern for the habit bodice, with only a few minor modifications. Now, will I finish it before Aug 19? Only time will tell...

Friday July 21 was my friend John Bonnot's going away party. He's been recalled to the army, and if he passes the medical, they'll keep him for another 18 months and send him to Iraq. However, his shoulder is shot, which was why he was on medical leave in the first place, so there is a pretty good chance that he won't pass the physical. Then they'll send him back home. On the off chance, though, he may be gone for a while. Anyway, the party was fun and I got to see a lot of friends. Anti-social and shy person that I am, though, we only stayed two hours before leaving.

Saturday morning started early. I showed up at Finari's place, and from there we went to Lake Texoma. On the way, I saw this ranch that raises miniature horses. I forgot how absolutely cute they are. I think next time we go, I'll take my digital camera so I can get some pictures of them. Not to mention get some records of our fun at the lake. There, I had a a wonderful, laid-back day with Tempest_Sky and Finari. We watched movies, painted miniatures, had golf cart rides. As usual, I had a wonderful time, and am rejuvenated for a new week. I can't wait until next time!

Now, at work, we're gearing up for GenCon. My early mornings are about to start, since I'd rather come in early and work and still leave at my normal time than stay late or work on Saturdays. I already came in early once and put together a lot of paint sets on Friday. It was slow going until I found the radio in the paint department. It had some band named Ween in it that wasn't too bad. I remember that one of our graphic designers LOVED Ween, but I had never heard their stuff before. Next time, though, I'm going to bring something a little more to my taste that will be good to work to. Like Rob Zombie or KMDFM. I'll talk to the production director and figure out if he wants me to start coming in starting Thursday, or if I have a reprieve until Friday.

Anyway. That's what I've been up to the past few weeks. ^_^

Friday June 23 was Matt's birthday. We went to Les Miserables for his present, and ate at the buffet that is there at the theater. Overpriced, but I ate enough very tasty rare prime rib to make it worth while. The show itself was great. I think the actor who played Jean Valjean was one of the best tenors I have heard. Cozette was a bit shrill for my taste, though. Eponine was in excellent form, as was Javert. I got chills at various moments and was moved to tears during at least one of Jean Valjean's scenes. It was a beautiful evening.

That Saturday, Matt went shooting with some friends, and [livejournal.com profile] finari and I went to the lake and hung out with [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky. I had a wonderful time. I think the highlight of my day was the ride in the boat across the lake at sunset. Of course, the golf cart chase was fun, too. And meeting a lot of the people at the boat club, especially Connie. And chatting with my wonderful girlfriends. And shopping at BecArt. In all, a wonderful, relaxing day.

Monday the 26 had things back to usual. Work during the day, WoW or chores or movies in the evening. Thursday I got together with friends and thoroughly enjoyed myself, as usual.

Friday evening had Matt and I in Dallas at Shakespeare in the Park. We watched The Tempest, which was awesome. I had never seen it before, and the performances were solid. This season they're doing that and a musical version of Midsummer Night's Dream, and early fall at the Addison location they will be doing Much Ado About Nothing. The "Junior players" will be doing The Comedy of Errors at the end of July, so I think I'm going to try to catch that, too.

Saturday we did chores in the morning and hung out at [livejournal.com profile] finari and [livejournal.com profile] narkeys's house and made super hero characters while watching Sky High and The Incredibles. Matt's planning on running a super hero game for the big group. I'm so looking forward to that, as it'll be losely based off our City of Heroes guild on Virtue. Heh. It will be a hoot. He's reserved the AGOT game for our visits up to OKC where our friend Glen is moving this fall for law school.

Sunday was relatively relaxed. Monday I had work in the morning, then lunch with my co-workers, a friend, and Matt, then I took off from work around 3pm and chilled out at the house with my love.

The 4th was full of fun. We got up at 7am to go to the park for a church flag raising ceremony, breakfast, and activities. I got to learn the Virginia Reel, which was a blast. Matt and I really need to go take some dance classes together. I know he would enjoy them, too.

Which reminds me (tangent!), recently, I think last week, I watched an episode of So You Think You Can Dance over at [livejournal.com profile] finari's house and it reminded me that I need to learn the waltz. And a few of the other more historical dances done in the ballroom. I would absolutely love to twirl around a ballroom in a historical gown with Matt in his Coldstream Guard uniform, when it comes in. Of course, I now need to make a ball gown. I'm thinking 1880s... or early Napoleonic...

Back to the 4th.... after the morning's activities, we headed over to Grand Prairie where the family thing was gathering. In spite of the fact that no one RSVP'ed to my mom (she forgot to ask for an RSVP, and since my family is too laid back, no one said anything), she had a decent showing, although I think the total attendance was "only" around 20-ish. Much fun was had. Volley ball, water balloon cannons/sling-thingies in the parking lot, chasing around of the Lex, reading children's books about the Revolution and key patriots, although none of them even mentioned Gen Nathanael Greene!

Heh. While Mom and I were filling up the water balloons in the kitchen, we were keeping an eye on the Lex (who will be two in October) while his mom and pop were playing volley ball. We gave him a water balloon that was only partially filled and he entertained himself with that for quite a while, until finally, while exploring the fascinating texture of the malleable rubber, he squeezed it tight then bit it. It sprung a tiny leak, and he explored by further squeezing the balloon, which of course burst. He was so shocked. Mom and I had a fit of giggles, and promptly gave him another. He played with that one for a while, then he chomped down on it and this one burst in his face. Again, the shock! And of course the giggles, and another passed down to him.

After hanging out with my family, we went to the Wat to pick up Matt's mother and have dinner together. Just before sunset, the sun came out and I saw the absolutely most beautiful rainbow I have ever seen. I could see it from end to end, unobstructed, and because the sun was setting, the colors were bright and vibrant against the dark grey clouds behind it. It was breathtaking, and I watched until it faded.

Oh, and I have this evil plan that will unveil itself on Friday. Some of my friends already know, and to them I say: My plan is coming together.... Muahahah! Fear me!

So, the weekend of June 10 was a blast. I worked at the art show with [livejournal.com profile] annawick and [livejournal.com profile] wyshadara and other nice people. Annie and I were door nazis. Heh. It really made the time pass quickly, though, and for the most part no one gave us any trouble. There was one moment of excitement when Diana, who was in charge of the show, caught someone taking pictures and she (quite rightly) blew a gasket. The dude left cursing, so Wysh and my brother-in-law chased him down and took him to security. Heh. After my shift ended, I had some time to run around the place with Matt, Shaun, Pat, and Pat's girl Cynthia. Saturday evening I helped with the art auction as a "Vannah."

There were four of my cousins and another sibling at the con, too, and of course Annie. Practically a family reunion, although I didn't even know Trevor was there til his mom sent me a picture of his costume.

Sunday was nice and mellow, ending the day at [livejournal.com profile] narkeys's and [livejournal.com profile] finari's place. We hung out, visited, and watched more anime (I know, it's a shocker). Monday the 12th I went to work, then at lunch headed home and finished watching Ghost in the Shell, then took Shaun to airport. All in all, it was a good ending to a good week.

Lessee. For my own future reference, I watched more TV that week than I have in a very long time:

3x3 Eyes
Deeper Samurai Kyo
Ghost in the Shell
Oh My Goddess
Peace Maker

I think that's everything...

Oh, and on Thursday night, we put out the old A/C and the old fridge for the city to pick up on Friday morning. The city picked up the old A/C unit, but left a note on the fridge that said "Necesidad contactar inspector de freeon." Hah. Did I mention that we live in a barrio? Well, that comes with some benefits. Armed with that knowledge, we just left the fridge out and it disappeared on Sunday sometime. Heh. It didn't necesidad contactar inspector after all.

Tuesday had me back at work, and life went back to normal. Then, this past Saturday morning and day, Matt and I headed out to Anna to hang out with Rob, Sioux and Kyr. We hung out, watched Chronicles of Riddick, etc. I think one day we're going to have to plan an outing to Ikea, since I've never been and it's on the way. That evening we played the Star Wars game up at the shop, which was fun, as usual.

Sunday after church, I went to Mom and Dad's to hang out and visit for Father's Day, but missed the first DFWCG class ;_; They did the paper dress forms, so I'm totally bummed that I missed. I even designed a logo for the DFWCG, heh. It's um very basic and not artistic, but for me it's not bad. At least it's something, and maybe some of the elements in it will help someone else come up with something better. Or it won't get used at all, which is alright, too, heh. I'm not artistic at all. :P

Monday, Tuesday and today have me back at work, etc, so now it's back to my normal boring stuff. ^_^

I think I need to start cleaning out the garage. It's needed it for quite some time, heh.

Update, etc

It's been like three weeks since my last update and I was going to lock this because it's so boring, but then just decided to not. Beh. There weren't a lot of changes, so I just didn't post. Life is good. Faire season is over, so my Saturdays will be open again for other social-type things, as well as hobbies and chores, etc. Heh.

With A-Kon looming, I have my friend Shaun over for his annual visit. I picked him up on Friday after a comedy of errors with us missing each other like some Chaplin movie. After a quick very late lunch, we went out to McKinney and picked up a fridge, then a late dinner at IHOP. I need to remember to stick to breakfasts there. The fish and chips were very, very "meh."

Saturday was great. Matt and I went to a dealership to look at a truck for his mother, after which we went to Glen & Jeanette's house for a surprise birthday game for Glen. We finally concluded our Phlan game fighting a 400+ year old demon-possessed bronze dragon, which Shaun played. It was quite the finale! Since my little sorcerer couldn't land a spell on the critter to save her life, she stopped time and buffed the party a lot. And go go creative use of Forcecage! So, next up for Matt will be AGOT. I'm really looking forward to that.

So far, the anime I've watched while Shaun has been here: Deeper Samurai Kyo, Ghost in the Shell (which I'd never seen before and really enjoyed), and Peace Maker. And still, my all time favorite is Rurouni Kenshin. Next up, more Ghost in the Shell, and um... I forget the name of the other one.

The social game has been postponed, and postponed again. I'm not especially sad about it, although as always once there I have fun. I have four other games aside from the social one that are always waiting to be scheduled, with people I know better. Two D&D games, my Thursday group (which I've missed like three weeks in a row! :-/ I'll be back next week for sure, though!), and Warhammer RPG. Soon one of the D&D games will go away when the DM moves to go to law school, which is sad but it'll be nice to be down to three games, I think.

In WoW, things are moving along nicely in our cobbled-together group. We're in our early 40s and moving forward. Kevin wants to check out the Horde side, too, so maybe one night a week we'll try that out. Matt rolled a tauren warrior named Charro, and I ran a lil orc shaman out to do all our newbie quests together. It's neat seeing everything with new eyes. I have too many level 30 to 45 Alliance alts, heh.

So, yeah. As usual, nothing odd or exciting to report. Although having a functioning full size refrigerator is awesome. Heh. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] fuzake!

Lessee. It's been a bit since my last update. I had most of this scribbled out on Friday's lunch, but now it's turned into the week and a half update. Heh.

So... another very long, rambling update...

Friday March 31 was good. I spent the morning hanging out at the house with the Verizon Fios guy. Well, I spent it cruising the internet and playing a little WOW while he installed our new Fios. After he left, I went to Golden D'Or (whose name still cracks me up - Golden of Gold??), since they were having their marvelous sale in their discount room. I picked up the most beautiful bronze chenille brocade at $1 per yard that will turn into mine and Matt's Elizabethan outfits for next year's faire. Matt's outfit will get most of it and I'll have it as accent colors. I'm thinking I'll use black velveteen for the main color on mine. Afterward, I got my car inspected and brakes fixed. Then [livejournal.com profile] finari and [livejournal.com profile] narkeys came over and Finari and I sewed while our boys fiddled around on the computers.

Oh, yeah. Our refrigerator died that Friday at some point, but luckily we have a chest freezer and I was able to move all the frozen foods out and some of the refrigerated stuff. I also resurrected Matt's tiny, old college fridge, which by some miracle still functions. Sometime in the near future, we'll get a repairman out to look at it. If it costs less than $300 to get it fixed, I'm thinking we'll go that route. Whee!

On Saturday April Fool's day, Matt and I went back to Harry Hines for matching fabric for Matt's Italian Pendragon. We found it at $19 a yard, but of course since we only needed the one yard, it was fine. After that we headed out to Anna to hang out with Rob, Sioux & Kyr, and Sioux's sister Terri and Terri's daughter Emma while Matt hung out in their kitchen making his hat. Lots of fun!

Sunday April 2 had Matt and I back in Anna (we should have just stayed the night, heh) with Mom and Dad joining us as well. Around 2pm I headed to Arlington to spend the rest of day and afternoon with Annie and Lex. He is getting more fun every time I see him. He even said, "Hi, Yay!" when I walked in the door, and I am convinced he was saying my name. ^_~

Monday and Tuesday of last week had me doing crazy work stuff involving massive database updates for discontinued parts. That evening I spent time with [livejournal.com profile] elizagoth and [livejournal.com profile] finari. We had a marvelous dinner then went to Hancock’s, then visited and started on our sewing. Elizagoth had to leave a bit early, though. Boohiss.

On Wednesday I finished sewing up the underskirt for the pink to loan to Jeanette. I'm not pleased with the pink's fit (bought it off eBay, silly me. Yet another reason to learn to sew for myself), so if it fits Jeanette, I think I may give it to her along with one of my old chemises.

Thursday evening Matt and I went to Phantom of the Opera at the music hall in Dallas. We got all dressed up - I wore my silver from the reception six and a half years ago, and Matt wore his very nice grey pinstriped suit. We went with [livejournal.com profile] finari and [livejournal.com profile] narkeys, and had a great time. We saw the Merediths from our old ward in Denton, and we also saw my uncle Jared and aunt Ginny, plus their kids. That was funny! We got to chat a bit with Jared and CJ during intermission. Jared's current hobby is rock climbing and rappelling. CJ is studying to be a DO. Cool.

Friday morning at work I had fun with garb, since I got Miriam to try on my ren wench stuff, heh. That evening we had Phlan gaming up at the shop and hit 20th level after three years of play. Sweet. Now to see if we survive the Big Boss. Bosses. Yeah. We're gonna die.

Saturday was opening weekend for Scarborough Faire. A lot of my friends and co-workers went. I also saw the parents, who also had Lex with them. That afternoon I met some people from the DFWCG email group. I so want to have a craft day with them, since I have so much to learn. I need to learn how to do cartridge pleats. And hand sewn eyelets... After faire, Matt and I headed home to pick up the hound and then headed to the shop for some Star Wars gaming.

Sunday was mellow and relaxing. This morning as I got a "Warning" from the city again. Sheesh!! This time it was for parking my green car in my driveway, but my car blocked the sidewalk. I could scream. My neighbors park ON THEIR LAWN during the weekends, and Sunday afternoon at 3pm (per the slip) I get a warning for parking in my driveway? I mean, a police officer stopped in front of my house, took time to fill out the card stock paper warning, got out of his car, and put it under my windshield wiper. Was it really that slow yesterday? Bah. Why didn't the officer just issue the warning about the sidewalk thing a year ago when they gave me a warning for my old white car with expired tags, which was in my driveway, too? *sigh* I guess I'll be parking the Hyundai on the street from now on. Facing the correct direction, of course. They actually give tickets for parking on the wrong side of the street. I guess it's good that the police patrol my neighborhood during the day....?

Anyway...

My current Big Goal - by this time next year I will have an Elizabethan noblewoman's outfit. Yeah, it'll be off for Scarborough's time period, but so be it. I can do it!

Update...

Thursday and Friday after my last update were spent helping Matt study for his certification test on Saturday, which he passed with flying colors (like 962 out of 1000). Yay! I think he only has two more to go now? Or is it three?

I've been on quite the sewing kick of late. In fact, most days I'd rather sew than play WoW, which astonishes me. Heh. I spent Saturday at [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky's house with [livejournal.com profile] finari, [livejournal.com profile] lolafae, our friend Anne, and Tempest Sky's sister-in-law Karen. After a quick run to Denison's own BecArt where I picked up some incense and herbal tea (yum!), we returned to Tempest Sky's for a whole day of sewing. Matt's shirt is done, so I had plans for myself this time. I started and almost finished the camicia. All that is left to do is the lacing for the wrists. I had a lot of fun, heh. Tempest Sky's living and dining rooms looked like a sweatshop with all of us huddled over the machines with our movies going in the background.

Sunday was easy and relaxing, and of course Monday had me back at work. The contract job is done, so things are re-settling back to its normal chaos. ^_^

Monday while driving down the narrow, black-topped country highway to work I saw a bunch of vultures (it's murder of crows, so does that make it a murder of vultures?). If I could have stopped to watch, I would have. Five of them were perched along the top of a white metal-tubed fence, watching with long, black, slender necks craned as their four compatriots tore into the pale pink and white corpse that I could not identify in the five seconds I was able to gawk. I do love birds of prey. Even the scavenging vulture is beautiful in its all-black utilitarian starkness.

Last night Matt and I watched Roman Holiday and A Breath of Scandal. I enjoyed both movies quite a bit, although there were some parts of A Breath of Scandal that didn't quite sit right with the characters. But it was certainly eye candy. Except for that dead-bird hat! What was up with that?! I'm going to have to find some more of Sophia Loren's movies. I remember being very amused by Matrimonio all'italiana when I saw it in college, and before that I remember seeing Houseboat as a teen and really enjoying that one. I need more Audrey Hepburn films, too, of course. Such a classy lady!

So anyway, I also picked up a copy of War and Peace, which maybe I'll watch this weekend... Friday maybe? I don't know but I think the costumes are going to be beautiful. After watching Roman Holiday, I think I'm going to have to look into some more Gregory Peck films, too... And I still <3 Cary Grant and need some of his films. Arsenic and Old Lace is still one of my all time favorites.

It's been a quiet week. Yay, quiet!

[livejournal.com profile] finari came over on Tuesday (and Friday) and we continued work on her partlet. It's coming together pretty well, although there were some snags with the pattern she is using. Having never done it before, we were having some difficulty interpreting it. Yes. We're sewing n00bs. :P

Matt's shirt is coming together nicely, though. The pattern I'm using for his shirt is a lot easier to read than the one Finari is using (which is my fault since that's my pattern, too, I've just never used it before). I'll get this stuff figured out. I ordered some regency gown patterns, and have the prettiest cream cotton with navy pinstripe fabric that I am itching to put together. Must do Matt's shirt first, though. I think my Italian renaissance dress is next, even before the regency, though.

The rest of the week was uneventful with a lot of relaxing and WoW. Then Saturday, I went fabric shopping with [livejournal.com profile] lolafae down at Harry Hines. I came out of it with relatively no damage to my pocketbook, as we were primarily shopping for her. I just got some cotton duck for Matt's sailor stuff for faire, whereas she scored this gorgeous, multi-colored raw silk and three colors of cotton gauze to match for her gypsy outfit. She'll look really cool once that all comes together.

Saturday evening, Matt and I went to The Master Grill Churrascaria in Denton with Kevin and [livejournal.com profile] sandrayln. I love hanging out with them. ^_^ Great conversation, and great food. Mmmm. Meat.

This week things are going nuts in production at the shop. The office (read me) is running pretty much as normal, although they brought in someone to answer the phone, so I will probably head downstairs after lunch to pull internet orders and such. There are, however, people at the shop 24/7 working on the contract job so that regular production doesn't fall behind. We even flew in some friends so they could help and pull some shift work, too. I think it'll be done by Friday, but in the meantime, there is much chaos downstairs.

Monday, Matt and I went to dinner at the Thai place off Preston with a good friend. I had some very yummy Panang with chicken that I will eat for dinner tonight, too, and spent a very enjoyable three hours chatting. Gonna have to do that more often!

Last night, more sewing with Finari. Heh. I'm almost done with Matt's shirt. Tonight, more sewing. I want to finish before I go to the lake this weekend - Saturday at the lake and the girls are all doing their own crafts, so I want to be working on something for me, too. ^_^
jaelie: (Default)
I spent the last Saturday in February with the sister and had a blast. We confused her in-laws for a sec because they didn't know she had cut her hair. Heh.

During the week, I played a lot of WoW, and hung out with the sister again on Thursday. I also got a little sewing done with [livejournal.com profile] finari on Friday - we got our bloomers done, heh. They turned out quite cute, in my humble opinion, though I still have a long way to go on what I need to learn.

This recent Saturday was Irish Festival, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. We took the hound with us, and he was beside himself with excitement. It also seems that he has recovered from his child-phobia, since he allowed every child that approached him to pet him without flinching or going to Bermuda. We hooked up with [livejournal.com profile] narkeys and [livejournal.com profile] finari before we even walked in the gate, and Matt ran into [livejournal.com profile] annawick and the Lex before the gates opened, too. We hung about and listened to Brother and Seamus Stout, and a pipe and drum band.... North Texas Caledonians? I can't remember. Rob, Sioux and Kyr showed up while we were listening to Brother, so we hung out with them, too. I did a bit of light shopping but was watching my spending pretty closely, so I didn't go overboard.

After the festival, Matt and I (and of course the hound), went over to Rob & Sioux's to hang out and chat some more. We stayed there far too late, heh. We left around 3am (zzzzz!), which made getting up in the morning for church interesting. After church, I just settled on the couch and read my niece's Animorph books (the first two of the series), which were quite amusing. Especially considering that Kyrie's favorite TV show is SG-1, and there is a pretty basic similarity between the two. As in the evil aliens for both the TV show and the book are slugs that go in your ear and posses/control the body and mind of the hapless humans. Heh. That's pretty much the only similarity straight off, but I found it very interesting.

Yesterday was more WoW, and today is sewing again with [livejournal.com profile] finari. I'm going to work on Matt's shirt and she's going to be working on her partlet. Fun, fun! :)
jaelie: (Default)
Well, lessee....

We helped Rob & Sioux move on the 28th. Almost everyone showed up to help, so we got a lot done. I rode around with Ian and Nikki back and forth, followed closely by my niece Kyrie. It was nice to be able to work together, and visit. I got some good Lex time in, too. After all the work and some lunch, we chilled out at their new home and watched Batman Begins. Matt strained his back, but didn't feel it until Sunday, and he spent the whole day in bed. Ick. He's much better now. ^_~

This most recent Friday, I hung out at [livejournal.com profile] lolafae's house with [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky and [livejournal.com profile] finari. It was supposed to be our girls' game, but our storyteller wasn't feeling well so we just hung out and visited, plus since Tempest hadn't seen Serenity, we watched that. I also got to admire Lola's new puppy. Cute! But I have to admit, I stand by my adopt-an-adult, I think. I remember having to potty train Knight and what a headache that was.

Things at the shop are going well but crazy. We got a huge order in from one of our regular customers, plus another huge contract job. So I am privileged to be able to put in some extra time this coming Saturday... This is when I get to pay my dues for working salary. Well, times like this, and conventions. *sigh*

I've been sick for the past few days, too. Not super sick, but I did miss work on Monday because my throat was totally killing me. Now it has moved from my throat to my chest like a plain old-fashioned cold. I have to admit that annoying as it is to hack and cough, I much prefer the old-fashioned cold to the terrible sore throat I had on Monday.

And best news of all, Matt got a job offer today, and if the background check goes well (which it should) he will start his new job on the 20th. Whee! *cheer!!* Can we say hello to health insurance for the first time in literally years?!!?

K. That's it for now. I know, short and quick. But I get to go home in ten minutes to play some WoW and cuddle the hubby! ^_^
jaelie: (Default)
Tuesday last week, I hung out with [livejournal.com profile] finari, and we did some shopping at WalMart. I came out of it with 13 yards of some white fabric with a really cool weave. Mmm. More fabric.

I can't remember if anything unusual happened on Wednesday, but Thursday I hung out with friends, and we chatted about different RPGs.

Friday evening I hung out with the girls. We played a few games of Halo. I am not a competitive person, so I only lasted three or so games before I lost interest (sorry, yall!). Then we watched Sahara. I think I'm going to buy that DVD.

Saturday morning Matt and I went over to Glen and Jeanette's place for a birthday party for Aleis, who is now five. I can't believe so much time has already passed! After that, Matt was feeling poorly so we went home and rested.

Sunday, Matt and I went to my parents' and made cookies and just generally hung out. I started reading a biography on Nathanael Greene, for whom I've always had a great deal of respect. I'm about half-way through and he is definitely becoming more human and less "legend," but I still have such respect for him.

I had an exciting Monday morning as the space heater we set up caught on fire shortly after I plugged it in and went back to bed. I heard a sharp pop! and the heater turned off, so I got out of bed and went to the power cord. As I was standing over it staring down blurrily, it went fffpoof! and burst into a small flame. I squawked and turned off the surge protector (isn't it supposed to turn itself off?), and the flame went out. Whee! Then I grabbed my portable alarm clock, re-set it for work and crawled back into bed. It took me a little to calm down, heh.

That evening, we went out to the farm to prep it for the upcoming freeze, opening all the pipes and shutting off the water. Fun, fun!

Last night, Finari came over to hang out and brought Sky High with her. I loved it, heh.

This morning, I saw a redtailed hawk perched on my neighbor's fence when I let the hound out for his morning run. I ran back inside, snagged the camera, and crept up as close as I thought it would let me and got some pictures. It just sat there, looking at me, all puffed up because of the cold. So beautiful! Now I just need to find the card reader so I can download the pictures....

Also, my dog tried to eat the shop cat. Each morning as we walk in the front door, I let him off leash. About 99% of the time he just runs up the stairs and goes directly to my office door and waits for me to catch up and unlock it for him, after which he promptly goes to his cushion and falls asleep. This time, however, the upstairs door to the shop was cracked open, and he either smelled or heard Mama-san. I was downstairs when I heard his very emphatic "GRRR-WOOFWOOF!" and the skitter of his claws on the wood floor as he made his lunge. I yelled "NO!" and ran up the stairs. He had already calmed down a little, although his hackles were up, his tail was flying, and he had a big, toothy grin on that pointy muzzle of his. I peeked out the door and saw a very, very offended Mama-san who was staring at the door, blue eyes dilated and tail poofed. I carefully clicked the door closed and went back to my office, with my hound prancing cheerfully a few steps ahead of me. I guess thinks he told her.

Well, I'm gonna stop here because lunch is almost over, and who knows, I may get to go home early. Texas and icy roads do not mix well. Jaelies and ice mix even worse. ^_~

Thursday I hung out with friends, then Friday evening I went to the lake for a slumber party and the girls' game. We left Denton around 7pm after a quick stop at the grocery store for supplies. I spent a wonderful hour and a half chatting with Anne and [livejournal.com profile] finari on our drive.

We arrived at the lake around 9pm. [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky and [livejournal.com profile] lolafae were already out and about, but Tim saw us drive up and had us hop on his golf cart. He scooted us over to a field and we got to see several deer just barely beyond the headlights of his cart. Then we went to the point where the others were and spent some time star gazing. [livejournal.com profile] finari saw the Milky Way Galaxy for the first time. She also saw like six falling stars. After that, we went back to the house, watched Van Helsing and fell asleep.

Saturday morning we woke up, showered, and had breakfast. Then we had our game.

Gamer geek stuff now... It was 100% combat this time, which was tolerable after about nine (or ten?) games of pure role-play. ^_~ [livejournal.com profile] finari's character first changed (whee!), [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky's character awoke, and my character, after finally losing the desperate hold on her own sanity, first changed, too. [livejournal.com profile] lolafae's character awoke last game, so she was already aware that things were not all as they seemed.

I think Lola is an Akanthus mage, and Tempest is a Thyrsus. Anne had an awesome idea for having them choose their Path. Anne chose one card to represent each Path and one card to represent each Arcana, and of course grouped the cards in threes, each Path and its two Arcana. Then, with out telling them any of this, she had the two of them chose the set that they felt represented their character the best. It worked out pretty well. ^_^

Finari and I both are Hunters in Darkness New Moons. Irakka? Heh. I still need to learn all the silly new terms for these old concepts. Although Anne already told us not to put too much stock into the fluff, so I think I'll just skip all that. This should be interesting... Finari's character is more of the sneaky type, and my character is more of the fighting type. It'll be interesting to see what different niches we work out for ourselves.

It works, though. I'm glad this new setting is more lenient on the mixing of the genres...

We played for about three hours, then had lunch and went into Denison to do some shopping at a little herbal shop. I picked up some henna, some crushed walnut shells, a pair of hair sticks, and some bergamot candles. Mmm.

When we finished in Denison, we went back to Tempest's place and put our characters on their new sheets. Whee! Then we went back out to the point to turtle-watch and catch the gorgeous sunset. After the sunset, we went back to the house and played with fire and roasted marshmallows. We left around 9pm to head back to civilization. It's so nice out at that lake.

Sunday morning's lesson was about music, so I brought my clarinet and played name that tune with the three-year-olds, who thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm very lucky they're not critics because I am badly out of practice, heh. Then I let them play around with Matt's chanter, which is virtually indestructible. They enjoyed that, too. We went to my parents' house around 1pm. [livejournal.com profile] annawick and the Lex were already there, so we lounged around and played with the munchkin. Rob, Sioux, and Kyr showed up around 7pm, so we hung around for another hour or two. Kyr is getting so BIG. I can't believe she's nine already.

Also, Mom and Dad picked up a camper trailer, one of those pop-up tent dealies, which I thought was very cool. It'll be better for Dad, too, since camp set up will be way easier, and they love camping. Of course, we never camped in such luxury as kids, but I know they'll really enjoy it.

Monday evening after work, I just had a very chilled out, mellow evening.

Tuesday evening we had dinner at Buco di Beppo with my mother-in-law, our sister-in-law, Jessie, and the monkeys, plus their friend Max. Matt taught the monkeys the meaning of "selling your best friend down the river," so as to properly embarrass a friend in front of their family, where as I hurriedly explained the meaning of "Too Much Information!!" Those boys are so silly. ^_~ After dinner we adjourned to Audt's house, where I was soundly defeated at chess by a nine-year-old, in like six moves. Heh. I wasn't surprised, though. Danny is one very sharp kid.

Last night, I relaxed and watched several episodes of Firefly. I love that show. I can't wait until Serenity comes out on DVD!

Matt's taking his mom to the airport today, where she's heading back to Bangkok for a few months. We'll be out to the farm to do some winter maintenance, and perhaps start going out there for some shooting now that she's gone... She doesn't really like guns, so while she's home it's a little more difficult. Plus she always has a to-do list when we go out there. ^_~

Also, we're getting a new toilet. Our water bill doubled this past month. Ugh. The one we've got is 30 years old and the water runs through it all the time. Matt's going by Lowes to pick us out a new one and then we'll have it installed. Once that's done, we'll eventually have to look at getting our air conditioner's condenser fixed, since it leaks, too. Luckily it's over the tub so it just leaks straight down the drain, although it's stained the tub. /sigh. Ah, the joys of home ownership!

Work is going well. We're starting to gear up for the holidays, and the huge influx of orders that comes with it. We got a small taste this week of what is to come. It's going to mean overtime for the hourlies, and longer hours for the salaried. This is when pay-back for being salary comes into play, heh. We have an awesome production crew, some real quality employees, so I am confident that things will go smoothly, if a bit hectic.

Now I need to start working on Christmas stuff. List time!

Thursday evening I went dancing with [livejournal.com profile] finari and Anne, plus two of the artists came as well. To my great delight, [livejournal.com profile] lolafae met us there, after having told us that she wasn't going to be there. ^_^ The playlist was ok, but not as good as the last time we went. We took a "scenic" route home, and turned in for sleep at home around 3am.

Friday morning came too soon, but Friday evening was nice. We spent it up at the shop playing Matt's Phlan game. My character is really finally coming into her power. Yay!

Saturday morning came really early, too, but it was well worth it. I rolled out of bed at about 6:45am (ok, it's early for me!), and was at [livejournal.com profile] finari's house by 7:15. We started our drive to Lake Texoma to spend the day with [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky. It was awesome.

On our way there, just before we reached the boat club, we did a good deed and helped a guy push his broken-down car off the road and into a nearby parking lot. Then we showed up at the boat club around 9am for what turned into a long, lazy day filled with golf cart rides, critter watching, sunset watching, movie watching, lots and lots of visiting with each other and with the boat club residents... We also took a brief trip into Denison to shop and have lunch at a really nice local Italian restaurant.

Some of the highlights (I had an awesome time in general):

zooming around on the golf cart
shopping at that awesome little herb/incense/book store
watching [livejournal.com profile] finari watch turtles
lazing around the house watching Vanity Fair
loving on Hailey and Comet
standing at the point watching the sunset
playing with fire after nightfall
grilling dinner with Tim and Roy

Next time I do believe I will take advantage of Tim's offer to stay the night. I don't think it'll be too difficult to convince [livejournal.com profile] finari, either. ^_^ I like [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky's idea of going up on a Friday and then playing all day Saturday. Maybe next time I should bring my sewing machine or something, [livejournal.com profile] finari could bring her scrapbooking stuff, and then we could all sit around and craft together. Heck, I could bring my stuff I need to scrapbook if I didn't feel like sewing.

I'm also toying with the idea of trying to convince Anne that it would be a great idea to go up on the 11th for our game on the 12th. :D

It's just so nice up there. It reminded me of all the things I've loved about living in the boonies. I want to live in the boonies again. Quite badly, actually. As long as I could have internet, too. ^_~

Sunday was lazy, too. Church in the morning, then another big long nap since I was feeling sickly again. I've really got to conquer this cold-thing that wants to take over. I only feel the tickles of it, then I beat it up with vitamins and extra sleep, then I invite it back before it's completely gone by getting four hours of sleep three nights in a row... Silly Jay. No cookie.

Then this morning, I had some really bad news. The bosses' mother passed away. Two of the owners are brothers, one of the owners is married to one of the brothers (their son works here, too), and all five owners are really close. So things are pretty melancholy and somber around here as they left in a rush at 9:30 after informing me. I'll be trying to take care of their loose ends while they take care of their family.

Ok, that's it for now. I have to run. Lots to do.
jaelie: (Default)
Tuesday I hung out at [livejournal.com profile] finari and [livejournal.com profile] narkeys's place. We chatted and goofed around.

Wednesday I went to dinner and watched Serenity (4th time - gotta support the film!) at the Studio Movie Grill with Matt, [livejournal.com profile] finari, [livejournal.com profile] narkeys, Sarah and Kevin. I like that theater, although the two times I've been, the restrooms were a little questionable. But I like the dinner with the movie thing, and I definitely like it on a weeknight. There were only like five couples there (bad for the theater, good for the viewers).

Thursday I chilled out at home with the hubby. He's been fiddling around with the free Lineage II stuff, too, seeing if he can set up a server at our place. Lineage II doesn't really do it for me, though.

Friday was the girls' game. It was awesome as usual, especially since I had a chance to see [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky. Whee! The story arc is progressing nicely, and I have always really enjoyed Anne's storytelling style. It certainly isn't for everyone, but it really meshes well with this group.

Saturday morning we got rid of the white car... we donated it to a charity based out of Dallas. It'll do someone else a lot more good than us sitting in our driveway unused for a few years. ^_^ Saturday afternoon we went over to Glen & Jeanette's and played some D&D. Surprise, surprise! ^_~ It was fun.

Sunday morning I went to church, but I could feel a cold coming on. So I destroyed it with an eight hour nap, and then Vitamin C and lots of water during my waking hours.

Monday work. Monday evening WoW. And I got to play with an old MMO friend. Whee!!

Tuesday, more work, and again some time over at [livejournal.com profile] finari and [livejournal.com profile] narkeys's place. ^_^

On another note, I'm thinking of dressing up for AKon 2006. My sister is going to do a nifty outfit, too. A friend of mine convinced me that with my coloring I'd be great as Belldandy... We'll see. I've looked through a lot of images and picked up a pattern that I'll be able to alter for the surcoat. I'll need to do a little more research on that, too. Then there's always Robin from Witch Hunter Robin...

Prepping for the con now, so that's it for this week...

Well, I have a bit of an update, since I've been so busy since I last wrote.

Lets see...

Sunday was pretty mellow with church and packing and relaxing. We also went over to our friends' Mark and Amy for dinner, which was very enjoyable.

The insanity started on Monday with the morning gathering everything together for my absence at work, and preparations for our trip. [livejournal.com profile] finari and our other volunteer/demo guy Patrick showed up around 3pm and then we started the 16 hour drive. Whee! Unfortunately, we discovered that the truck had some sort of glitch that made the reverse lights stay on all the time, and the rental van was excruciatingly uncomfortable. The only two comfortable seats were the driver's seat and the front passenger. The two people who shouldn't be sleeping! Talk about a big boo hiss. Needless to say, I'll never, ever consider buying a Ford mini van.

We arrived in Indianapolis on Tuesday morning around 9am. I also discovered that the convention staff was going to let exhibitors set up on Tuesday after 2pm, so luckily our motel rooms were ready and we took a nap at the motel. After our naps, we headed over to the convention center and had the booth set up in about two hours, after which we went back to the motel and got some real sleep.

Wednesday was very nice and laid back. There was much relaxing at the motel all day, and then dinner with Sandy and Aaron (and [livejournal.com profile] finari, Patrick and of course Matt) at a pub. After dinner, Matt and I took Patrick and Finari back to their various hotel rooms, and then we had our our high priority business meeting about Licensing that was disguised as a Ravenloft game. Heh. We got back to the motel at 3am.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday were a bit of a blur. I had the show during the day til 6:30pm, chilled with the demo team until about nine-ish, and finally the motel and sleep.

Show highlights:

*I had two lunches and a dinner with my friend Ged (yay!), whom I only get to see at Gen Con because she lives in the UK. We chatted about life in general, dollfies (I want one so badly!), fashion, and other things. Too bad she lives so far away! I also enjoyed chatting with her friends Ralph and Anne, who are artists, too (Ged's hubby is a very well known artist in the industry). (lots of parentheticals!)

*I met two of my favorite artists - Nene Thomas (I also got to see her beautiful dollfie) and Stephanie Pui-Mun Law.

*Co-piloting for Matt and Kevin, and having [livejournal.com profile] finari co-pilot for me. Lots of long, interesting conversations and true quality time with friends.

*I bought some Copplestone miniatures, but also later discovered that one of our retailers in England is willing to trade for some, so I can trade for more! Whee!

*I scored some Hasslefree miniatures and some Freebooter miniatures in trade. Yes, yes. I know. I work for a miniatures company and own literally pounds of unpainted pewter. I'll get around to painting them, really! I still need more, though! XD

*I also of course scored a Mage: The Awakening in trade. I can't wait to start reading it!

Matt traded for some Order of the Stick books and lots of other stuff, like the Game of Thrones RPG, a copy of Guild Wars, and some other things I can't remember.

The show ended Sunday. The booth was packed up by 6pm, but the truck's batteries had drained because one of the drivers left on its lights. However, we had dinner, got the truck jump started, took showers, and then started the long drive home. We got back to HQ on Monday at about 4pm, unloaded the truck, dropped [livejournal.com profile] finari off at her place, turned in that blasted mini van, and finally home. I forced myself to stay up until 9pm, and then crashed after no sleep for 38 hours. Whew.

A huge thank you to [livejournal.com profile] fuzake, who watched our pooch for us while we were gone. It's nice to see that Taltos has accepted you as part of the pack now. ^_^

Tuesday was nice. I chilled out at the house and played with our swag. Since Matt scored a copy of Guild Wars, we fiddled around with that for most of the day and crashed at about 11pm, back on my normal schedule.

Wednesday I went to work and cried at the 200 emails waiting there for me that needed responses, and started working on those. Today is work again, with emails mostly out of the way, I think. Now I just need to listen to all my phone messages and get caught up on all the rest of my piled up stuff (no one opened the consumer mail while I was gone either). Whee!

Ok. So back to work!

I had a pretty standard week.

Monday was a fairly standard busy workday, and that evening I went home and played CoH with Matt and friends from work. Tuesday I hung out w/ [livejournal.com profile] finari and watched the first half of Pride & Predjudice over at my place. She brought Duke, and on the way home with her, I wondered if Taltos would be territorial at all. Nope. He was so thrilled to see Duke that he kept boinging, heh.

Wednesday was a repeat of Monday. Thursday I played WoW and leveled my little Shadow priest. I think until we get CoH settled, I'll play this toon. So far, she's been a lot of fun.

Friday was a busy day, and various events conspired against us, but we prevailed and had a wonderful time. We went to dinner & movie (Charlie & the Chocolate Factory) with a host of friends, then went to midnight Harry Potter book release. I didn't buy a copy - all mine are in paperback so I'll wait and get that one in paperback too. I'll just borrow [livejournal.com profile] finari's copy to read in the meantime. ^_~ Thanks tons to [livejournal.com profile] lolafae and [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky for arranging such a fun evening!

Saturday morning I went in to work. Since we needed to move stuff around in the warehouse and didn't want to interrupt weekly production, we salaried people got pressed, heh. The men moved 300(ish) pound shelving units around while I transferred product from shelf to shelf. Matt ended up pretty sore, while I was hacking and coughing from all the unsettled dust. Heh. We had lunch with my brother-in-law and a friend at an excellent Chinese buffet place in Denton, and then headed over to Glen & Jeanette's for some D&D. We finally killed the dragon. Whee!

Sunday was nice and relaxing with movies and reading.

This week.... gearing up for GenCon.
jaelie: (Default)
I had an awesome week, although each day was a repeat of the first, more or less, heh. I did a lot of hanging out with friends and watching anime. So, this year we watched:

Witch Hunter Robin
Trigun

While Trigun was cool, I liked Witch Hunter Robin a lot better. I think because it was more serious, although now I understand why so many people dress up like Vash at A-kon. He was really cool. Wolfwood, too (although his costume would be too easy to really count).

Also, this week while our guests were over, Matt renewed our SWG accounts (again). He also respec'ed my Master Dancer/Master Musician/Master Entertainer/Master Image Designer who was a whopping Combat Level 1 to a Master Rifleman/Master Combat Medic and is now Combat Level 80. I amuse myself by keeping my Expert Hairstylist tag under my name, though.

Matt, friends and co-workers all want to be Imperials, but my big brother, who is on the same server, is a Colonel in the Rebellion. Urg. So, I can either kill my friends and hubby, or kill my brother. What a mess. Anyway, Matt already has his full suit of biker scout armor, and my other friends are well on their way to getting their faction armor, too.

Saturday was A-Kon itself (whee!), where I got to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] finari (who came over quite a bit this past week) and [livejournal.com profile] annawick. There were lots of good costumes, even more mediocre costumes, and an overwhelming number of just plain bad costumes, but as always, it proved to be a prime people-watching day. ^_^ I think next year I will actually go watch the cosplay, though. According to my sister, that is a hoot, so I'll give it a go. Guess I better find out more about that...

After wrangling two free passes, I spent some money in the dealers' room and got Matt his next installment of Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue, issues 13 through 17, plus some hair sticks and earrings for me. I also enviously eyed some absolutely beautiful wedding kimonos that I absolutely could not afford. At about 7pm we headed out to a small party at Anne/Bob/Darryl/John's house, where a super-happy surprise was there for me in the form of a long-missed friend, which totally made my week. Wheeee!!

Sunday was nice and mellow. I had lunch at the parents' house, saw my youngest brother who came, too, then went back home to hang out and watch the last bit of Trigun that we could cram into our soon to be over friend and anime fun.

This morning I took Shaun and Dan back to the airport at the crack of dawn, and then went in to my normal Monday work routine. Matt just took Patrick to the airport, so tonight I will clean up a bit and then just relax. No more social obligations until Thursday.

Mmm. Nice.
jaelie: (Default)
On Tuesday, I did the standard work thing. Matt showed me a Star Wars fan film called IMPS, the second installation of TROOPS, and I loved it. Theoretically they are going to produce eight (total) twenty-ish minute films, one at the beginning of each month. When I got home, I watched another fan film called Revelations that Matt put on DVD for me. It was pretty good for a fan film. The effects were nice, the acting was ok, but the sound was all off and a little distracting. I also watched Episode IV. I watched those while I helped [livejournal.com profile] finari work on her skirt - I did the pleats though. Later I showed her how to set a waist band, so I won't be able to teach her much more, heh.

Wednesday morning started out with a twist when I narrowly avoided an accident with an SUV whose driver didn't know how to drive. She pulled out of a driveway and promptly did a 180 across Swisher because she slid through some water and didn't know how to control a skid. Dork. Luckily I saw it in plenty of time, and although I had to slow down rapidly, I didn't have to slam the breaks. I got to have lunch with [livejournal.com profile] annawick and Lex (Yay!), which is always fun.

Our roommate moved out after not occupying our spare room for months and not paying rent for two of those months. She got four - I gave her Oct & Nov rent-free while she was looking for a job, and she didn't pay April or May. Although in all fairness, I told her if she moved her things before the end of the month I'd call May a wash. I don't think I'll ever see April either. /shrug. It's better off this way, regardless. She never stayed at our place, anyway.

We have our house again. I'm thinking we won't have another roommate, maybe. Of them all, half have been on time with rent, the other half slid and got several months rent-free. It's partly because we don't really need the money or a roommate, so we've let friends on difficult times stay. Actually, it's been family that have slid on rent. Hm. Friends have always come through.

After she left, I spent the evening with Matt. While he watched Schindler's list, I read a book. It was a comfortable, cozy evening.

Thursday day was a normal work day, but Thursday evening I went dancing. Since some of the artists joined us, we decided to really dress up. I wore my floor-length white and silver jacket, plus leggings and boots. Lots of fun was had.

I took Friday off to get some things taken care of around the house. That morning I went fabric shopping, and found an awesome deal on some black cotton twill and white cotton gauze for the jedi costume that Matt's making. We'll be dying the gauze since the only colors in cotton gauze we could find were pastels, heh. I helped [livejournal.com profile] finari finish up her skirt, which looks marvelous, as I knew it would. That evening we played Star Wars d20. Matt made an adjustment in time period, so we're now playing during Episode I rather than 4000 years before. Should be interesting...

Saturday morning I cleaned house a bit, then that afternoon I picked up the guys at the airport. We hung out, and I made the guys watch Revelations and IMPS and went through Shaun's anime to pick out what to watch this year. We're going to watch Trigun and Witch Hunter Robin. We started with Witch Hunter Robin while Matt made machine-gun noises with the sewing machine in the TV room. Witch Hunter Robin is very cool so far - one I may consider picking up.

Sunday was very mellow, as usual. I went to church, then hung out with the guys (there will be a lot of that coming up this week) and watched more Witch Hunter Robin. Matt finished his outer robe.

It is now Monday. All my friends are off work today. I guess it's fair since I took Friday off, but still. :P
jaelie: (Default)
All went well with the pooch's visit at the dentist. They said his gums bled pretty badly, and I made sure to ask some questions about how/what I should do to keep his teeth healthy. I got pain killers for him, but I only gave them to him on the first two days. After that, he seemed to be alright. Only recently has the redness gone away from his gums. Yay!

I also quizzed the vet about Taltos' weight and whether or not I should be concerned. He said that when the larger greyhounds that race at 85 pounds get adopted it is pretty normal for them to gain about ten pounds. He also told me that we should definitely pay attention to his weight and not let him get heavier than 100 lbs, as that would increase his chances for hip dysplasia and back problems. So, I'm going to take longer walks with the pooch, monitor his food intake, and take him in periodically to the vet and weigh him (they said I could weigh him any time).

Friday I worked on sewing stuff, and Saturday I went to Scarborough with [livejournal.com profile] finari. I saw several friends there, but the amazing sighting was Chris P (aka Silvershade). He was looking pretty well, and we had a nice, though unfortunately brief chat. I forgot how tall he is. Later, one of [livejournal.com profile] finari's friends and the friend's spouse joined us around 1pm. We left around 3:30pm so we could go home and rescue our dogs before going to friends' house for D&D. That night, of course, was D&D. We had to stop playing in the middle of our battle against a white dragon. I think the dragon was winning, heh. We'll see in the next installment.

Sunday was nice and relaxed. After church, I took a nap and then vegetated for the rest of the day reading.

Our dryer is acting up, but Matt took the piece apart that was making the weird noise and says he can fix it, so we'll see. Right now our laundry is on drying racks in our dining area, heh. It certainly gave me flashbacks to my time in Italy, where for 19 months I didn't have a dryer (they are believed to cause cancer or something).

This week is going to be insane. We're gearing up for our convention, and guests start arriving on Wednesday or Thursday. Plus of course we have our midnight Star Wars thing. [livejournal.com profile] finari and [livejournal.com profile] narkeys are hosting a dinner at their place. Well [livejournal.com profile] narkeys is hosting and [livejournal.com profile] finari will be napping. Smart woman. I think it should be potluck so they're not left with the food bill. I'll start calling people this evening, I think.
