Costume Dramas
Jul. 14th, 2010 06:35 pmHey
jenthompson, not sure if you were wanting to watch any Victorian costume dramas, but I'm really enjoying the costumes and story from The Buccaneers. Not to mention it has two actresses I really like (Mira Sorvino and Carla Gugino).
Which also reminds me, Mira Sorvino is in another costume drama called The Triumph of Love, and it's 18th Century. I really liked it on an Italian cultural level because it is SO Commedia del'Arte, with Harlequin and everything. Oh, and
ashnimehal, you might like it, because there's some cross-dressing ladies, too. The Princess and her lady in waiting both spend a lot of time in 18th century men's clothes. Great stuff.
Though to be honest, they don't look very much like men to me, heh. Ah, well! Suspension of disbelief! Plus their clothes when they're playing guys is awesome.
Hm. After I finish The Buccaneers, I think I'll watch Triumph of Love again. What a fun romp.
P.S. I'm not a movie critic, just so every one is clear. Movies I like, other people don't always really care for. :P
