So, I know I can't dance (I mean, really, I'm 9 months pregnant), but I am so excited about the fact that they're starting up céilís again!! Please note, it really doesn't matter if you've never danced at a céilí before - they will gladly teach you. This is forwarded from my Conradh email group:

Greetings dancers!

A new season of céilí dances kicks off this Saturday evening. The dances have moved from the studio to the ArtCentre of Plano, a charming art gallery with a wooden floor located in the heart of historic downtown Plano. Nearby are shops, restaurants, and the Fillmore Pub, as well as a DART light rail stop, all within easy walking distance. The ArtCentre is located on the northwest corner of E. 15th Street and Avenue K in Plano. Check out their website http://www.artcentreofplano.org/ for more photos, parking info, and a sample of the current exhibition.

Best of all, we get to dance again! Mimi and Allison will provide the tunes while we celebrate the joy of dancing. Bring a friend, spouse, or neighbor -- you can even BYOB if you like. (Just beer and wine please.) Don't be shy; most dances are taught, and new dancers are always welcome. The particulars are:

Date: Sept. 27, 2008
Time: 7:00 - 9:00pm
Cost: $5 for SCMA members, $7 for non-members. (Supervised children under 13 may watch free.)
Dances: céilí and set dancing
Address: 1039 East 15th St., Plano, TX 75074
Parking: on the street or in a parking garage north of the ArtCentre. See http://www.artcentreofplano.org/directions.

See you Saturday!

I went dancing last night with Anne, [livejournal.com profile] finari, [livejournal.com profile] fuzake and finari's co-worker/friend Viktor. A great time. I saw [livejournal.com profile] d33z_nutz and had a brief chance to talk to him, but I didn't get to see him dance. *pout* I like watching people dance, and he dances very well.

This morning, I'm tired but cheerful. I have quite a bit to still do before the con, but I've hit a very mellow stage regarding it. I'm not excited about the actual working part, but I'm thrilled to have the chance to see friends that I only ever get to see at GenCon. I think that even if work stops officially going, I'm going to make the effort to be there just so I can hook up with them.

Random thoughts that just popped up in my tired brain:

Jay, with the right intonation, means "big sister" in Thai.
de (pronounced 'jay'), means "ladybug" in Gaeilge.

Well, I had a lot of fun last night. Went dancing with [livejournal.com profile] finari, [livejournal.com profile] lolafae, [livejournal.com profile] tempest_sky, Michael and Anne. I danced a lot more than usual, as my wobbly legs are reminding me this morning, heh. The DJ and play list were much better this time, too. However, I'm a bit groggy, and I find myself eying my sleeping pooch with envy. I wonder if he'll scoot over and make room for me on his cushion? I know it's gonna get worse, too, especially as I start entering in orders. Heh. There's nothing like numbers to lull me into a nice, comfy doze.

I can only imagine how the girls are doing, since they all have to get up and be at work at least one to two hours before I do...

Lots of /hugs your way, ladies!

An update

Last week I was kind of sick. I say "kind of" because it was more like a cold, with a real bad sore throat. Tuesday Matt made me stay at home. When I told him I was well enough to work, he got mad at me so I gave in, heh. Wednesday there was no game because [livejournal.com profile] dogdoolb was sick. Also when I got back to work on Wednesday, I discovered that half the shop had called in sick Tues & Wed, too. So what ever this thing is that's going around, it's not a happy thing.

Thursday Taltos and I went over to [livejournal.com profile] finari's house to play with her and Duke. It was funny watching the two dogs. In the back yard, Duke would chase Taltos around, and Taltos would be running sideways with Duke barely keeping up. They rolled around a bit, with Taltos usually on top (he has at least 40 pounds over Duke), and Taltos was growling, but I think that it was a "play" growl, especially since Duke didn't seem alarmed at all. They romped around a little inside, too. I still have so much to learn about my dog.

Saturday morning I did some shopping for presents for Matt - it was easy, I picked up the next five O'Brien books. Then Taltos and I went over to [livejournal.com profile] finari's again to go with her to the vet at PetSmart.

Saturday evening after Matt got back from class, we watched all my chick flicks - Kate & Leopold, Emma, Pride & Prejudice. Then Sunday we watched all five Star Wars movies. Hehe. Nice and lazy Valentine's weekend. On actual Valentine's Day, I spent the evening playing WoW, since Matt had class til like 11pm.

Tuesday and Wednesday I got to have lunch with my sis [livejournal.com profile] annawick and Lex, which was a load of fun. I still get a giggle from people mistaking us for the other - when she showed up at my work, my co-worker Ron was standing at the top of the stairs looking down at the door.

He saw her come in with Lex, thought it was me, and said, "Hey! Who do you have there?"

Annie, startled, replied, "Uh, is Jay here?"

Other co-workers did double takes and such, which we both found highly amusing. Later at lunch, our waiter asked us if we were twins. On Wednesday at the Thai food place, they thought she was me until I walked in the door behind her. Bwahahah!

One of the most amusing things is that as a child, I used to be greatly offended by the "are you twins" question. I mean, I was four years older and taller, obviously! And I have blue eyes and she has brown, and her hair was darker and straighter! So clearly we could not be twins!! Hehe. Funny how things that bugged me as a kid now greatly amuse me as an adult.

Wednesday evening while Matt was in class, I had dinner with [livejournal.com profile] matthius1. Since he was crashing at our place he thought he should treat me to dinner, and I'm not one to say no to free food. ^_^ I had a good time talking with him and getting to know him better.

Last night I went dancing with [livejournal.com profile] finari, [livejournal.com profile] lolafae and my friend and co-worker Anne. Well, to be honest, I didn't dance much because I'm still recovering from this silly cold and didn't want to overtax myself. But I definitely had fun visiting, relaxing and listening to the music. The playlist doesn't change that much, but I don't really mind since we only go about once a month or so. On the good side, I have discovered that I like Motley Crue. Who knew?

Woo! Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] elizagoth, I looked up the celtic dancing troupe that led the celtic country dancing at our reception five and a half years ago. Matt and I used to go to their practices, but due to time restraints and other commitments, we stopped going. However, The Denton Celtic Dancers hold practices on Sunday evenings, and it looks like we will be able to start going again! Yay!

Also, it looks like on the evening of Saturday Feb 26 (I'm going to be busy that day!) they're hosting a ceili! Whee!!

Again if anyone wants to go, let me know and I'll give ya more information. ^_^
